We were lucky to catch up with Shanti Krishna recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shanti, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My path to embodying optimism has been the ability to look at all experiences in life, whether dark or light, as opportunities to positively expand oneself. When rooted in this perspective, one is able to receive life’s challenges as gifts that help them rise into a higher version of themself, where optimism more easily blooms. Some of my biggest blessings in life have been through some of my darkest moments. By reflecting on the lessons our challenges present to us, we gain wisdom and the opportunity to heal and grow, further allowing us to step into more alignment with our unique truth.
Through my Kundalini yogic practice and spiritual meditation, I’ve been able to develop a strong nervous system, which allows me to handle whatever life throws my way in a more conscious, graceful and easeful manner. This helps me stay aligned with an optimistic perspective.
My aim is to inspire others to give themselves grace. Take accountability for personal actions, create opportunities to grow and expand as a human, and find a little humor and self-compassion along the way. We are all deserving of goodness. Like the ocean tide, life ebbs and flows in highs and lows, turbulence and peace, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At the core, I am a Mother, with a deep desire to help children embody authenticity, empathy, determination, and their own unique gifts. But I am also an actor, voice artist, and yogini. These seemingly different mediums of expression, all have a profound connection to self-discovery and spirituality.
Motherhood opened my heart to compassionate presence, trusting intuitive guidance, self-reflection, and the importance of emotional regulation. These embodiments, through motherhood, also deemed to be very spiritual in nature.
Acting was a passion from a young age, rooted in a desire to explore the range of emotions an individual could express and better understand myself. Acting classes were a welcomed place to identify as someone outside of self, gain diverse perspectives, and deeply empathetically relate with others.
Voice acting, where the performance was solely delivered through sound, was also intriguing to me. I discovered that when the voice alone became the transmitter of a message… how the body moved, the authenticity of what was being said, and the thoughts in the mind while delivering that message, profoundly effected the impact of the voice and how the message was received by others. This was a medium in which I could play and discover how emotion transmits through sound frequency.
Yogic practice honors sound as sacred. Through chanting mantra and meditation, I am able to reach a more clear state of consciousness, void of negative thought patterns, allowing me to receive guidance from a higher place. Through the yoga, the body is strengthened and the nervous system is regulated, creating resilience and energy.
At present, I am in a dance with all of these mediums, and exploring ways in which I can be of service, utilizing these talents and discoveries, to create more peace and love in the world for future generations.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Kundalini Yoga & Meditation: To be able to move through complexities of life and the world around us, with grace and ease, you need to have a strong nervous system and the ability to look at life from a neutral mind. Kundalini yoga & meditation is the technology that I found to quickly help me build and sustain this strength and ability. By committing to a daily practice, even a brief but powerful one, allowed me to release stuck energy accumulated within, energize my mind, and find a flow with clarity and peace.
Embodiment Through Acting: From a young age I was drawn to acting, which is what led me to my voice over career, and now I understand a bit more as to why I was so attracted to this performance art. Through the experience of training yourself as an actor, especially in method acting which I studied extensively, you are able to really experience a range of deep emotions and gain an understanding of how those emotions feel and move through the body. Ultimately you are able to embody all emotions from a neutral perspective, as you gain the understanding that the emotions are not you. You get to experience these emotions from an internal place of external perspective, and learn how to authentically and artistically emote them, which is very healing.
Mantras & Sound: I have mantras playing in my home, in each room at a low volume, around the clock because of the power of the frequency they transmit into the space. I chant mantras, in practice, but also subtly in my mind throughout the day. Sat Nam is one of my favorites. Chanting this internally or externally, transmits a truth frequency that allows you to embody your truth with more ease. Everything has a vibration and the mantras hold a high frequency (good vibes!) that combat lower frequencies, whether it be negative thoughts or other lower vibration energies.
These are some of the unique tools and technologies my soul has chosen to utilize in this life, but I would encourage others to find a path of growth that is true to them. The important thing is to further understand oneself, strengthen the nervous system, and find inner balance, so that we can all come together to bring peace to the world. For what we experience within, is what we will experience without.. let it be Love.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I am a book junkie. I dream of having an actual library space in my home one day! To me, there’s nothing like getting cozy with a tea, blanket, and tactile book in hand, and diving into another realm through words. Many books have been of importance to me through my life’s journey, but one that recently took hold of a deep place in my soul is the Bhagavad Gita. It’s a spiritual text which imparts wisdom on fulfilling one’s duties, understanding the self, connecting with the divine, and finding inner peace. It guides you on how to live a life of purpose, integrity, and spiritual growth. One of my divine calls is to translate this spiritual text, in some fashion, into a version that resonates with children.
