Meet David Goolkasian

We recently connected with David Goolkasian and have shared our conversation below.

David, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
As a child I thought I was a Martian for a while. I had a dream in which I had antenaes which retracted into my head just before I woke up, So, I just do what I enjoy and never worry what people think.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Goolkasian is the co-founder of The Elevator Drops (Timebomb/Arista) in the early 1990s and has continued to evolve and surprise creatively. LOVESICK, is the newest venture, harmonizing his talents with Heather Joy Morgan, Adam Wade (Funeral Party) and Palana (vs The Man) on Drums!

Goolkasian & Morgan put their talents together to create a beautiful set of Mermaid themed videos to illustrate the music for their wild reinterpretation of Beach Foam (Future Islands) and is now working on editing a stunning Video for the enchanting Beck Black.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Start with a vision and let it guide you. Learn the skills that you find you need to bring the ideas from your mind into reality – or I suppose virtual reality if we are talking Digital Arts.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Guaranteed to be mocked for this but I found Dale Carnegies comedically titled How to win friends and influence People chaulk full of advice which you wind up finding useful and incite full.
