Meet Jonna Ross

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jonna Ross . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jonna below.

Jonna , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I would have to say this was a struggle for my whole life, always feeling less than & unwanted. I didn’t even understand what it could feel like to be confident or have self-esteem. This changed when I decided to get sober and slowly build my confidence back. I began to love myself truly, do things I enjoyed and pushed myself when I didn’t want to or had a lot of fear in. But every time I did this, I realized how confident I was , how much I loved myself, and how important it is to find my self-esteem in myself, my body, my mind and my relationships.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Right now I think I’m looking more toward my career. My dream has always been to be a children’s therapist. I want to help young children to learn ways to deal with their problems and feelings in a positive & healthy way. I believe that if I’m able to help them early own then when they become older they will choose healthier ways to deal with life. I am currently applying for Masters Program. Also been working on my first book. This will be a Memoir of my life. I am currently working at a place called Break the barriers. It’s a place where children who have disabilities can come and be involved with activities. I teach children how to swim. I love being around kids and helping them learn an important skill and make them feel apart of something. Also recently decided to start training for swimming in the Paralympics. This journey is very exciting and new.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the three most important things that helped me. Setting realistic goals, pushing myself everyday towards that goal, if you fail remind yourself that it’s normal but it’s important to NEVER GIVE UP!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed I definitely rely on my support system like my friends and family. I also talk with a therapist when I feel like I can do it on my own. Getting others perspective can be very beneficial. I also read spiritual or meditation books. Journaling is very helpful for me to get all my feelings and thoughts out on paper. Exercise is one of the most important things that can help me get out of my head. Nature can be a powerful energy source.
