Meet Tynisha Harris

We were lucky to catch up with Tynisha Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tynisha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose while I was trying to skip out of church service. We had a Chef that would do all of our events and I started helping her when I was around 10 years old. From there I realized that I loved to cook. Directly after high school, I went to culinary school to get better trained and I’ve been in the industry for 17 years.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a classically train chef. While I do cook savory food my favorite thing to do is bake! I love making anything sweet. I take things that you expect to be savory and make them sweet. I actually just participated in my first competition and got 2nd place in Dessert Wars Competition in Atlanta this October. Because of that win I will be going to the championship on December 2nd. I am very excited about competing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three skills that I believe are absolutely essential are time management, being able to work with others and budgeting money!! All three of these skills are necessary to be successful in your craft, in business and in life. Surround yourself with people that are where you are trying to go. Who you surround yourself with is just as important as what you do to get to you goal.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allowed me to be myself. When I told them that I wanted to go to culinary school, they made away for me to do that and have been supporting me throughout this entire journey. Their love and support is evident, in the way that I carry myself in the confidence that I have. I am so grateful to have this type of parents, who, regardless of what was going on in their personal life, allowed me to be free and grow far beyond even what they could.
