Meet Perla Maarek

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Perla Maarek. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Perla below.

Perla, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I think it’s when you feel truly happy doing something, whatever it is; in my case doing my art with fashion photography. It can happen by accident like for me my father bought a camera for christmas to my mother when I was 20 or 21 years old and when I hold the camera for the first time I strated to shoot my environnement, things, objects, people etc… something happened that day my mother never touched the camera as I developed a true passion for it until becoming a fashion photographer. Where passion is purpose is.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started fashion photography in my early twenties and I was luckily born in a town not too far away from Paris which was the place to be to lead that type of career. I worked very quick with model agencies (ELITE, FORD etc…) , magazines (L’OFFICIEL) and brands for 10 years which made me get my visa to move to California as I am a true natural light lover and a nature lover so LA is a paradise for me to shoot in terms of light and locations (the beach, desert, pools, etc…) I am the most excited when I shoot in large houses with pools with tones of natural light surrounded by nature with a model I am inspired by (btw I shot recently at Jennifer Lopez’s Mansion in Beverly Hills it was unbeliveable!); some models literally became muses. My style is very feminine sensual and sensitive so I definitely have a french touch and European style that make me very special in my art. I have a feminine sensitivity with the colors, and the way a look a women, models I empower their beauty in an elegant and gracious way. sexy can be classy as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1-Never give up, it will be hard, it has been and it will be, and sometimes you will experience sone moment of bliss, these will be worth waiting and fight for, their taste are so unique. Perseverance and work pays off.

2- My skill is my unique style and my french touch, I have something with soft colors that make my editing and final result unique. I like to make photographs look like dreamy, a bit romantic.

3- My vision, when a client brings me a product like jewelry or bags to shoot for example I immediately have visions about how I “see” the product with the model, where, the vibe etc… Btw artists are mostly hired for their vision, not just for their labor.

1- Don’t give up 2- Have your own style 3- Fight for your vision

How would you describe your ideal client?

Any fashion brand but I definitely have something with accessories and with bikini and linjerie so client like Jewelry brand, swimwear brand, Linjerie brand, shoe brand, bag brand, hat brand etc…

The ideal client is the one who sees and share my visions and who will let me choose a model that inspires me and built the team I want to work with in good atmosphere in a location we can choose together because it’s such a huge part of the visions I have as an artist. When my artistic direction is respected then I can be very creative and I become a bomb of creativity.
