Tie, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding my purpose came through the pain and obstacles that I’ve faced or experienced in my life. Once I allowed myself to feel and embrace my emotions I was able to process them. During that process I established a vengeance to face those emotions that caused pain with a purpose. The purpose was found organically through serving and filling a void where I was hurting. It’s essential to acknowledge your feelings of sadness, anger, grief, or frustration before you can move forward. This is what I did and doing…through self reflection, learned experiences I identified my values and allowed God to use me in reshaping my confidence and values as a compass to align with my journey.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Tie Cooper is an accomplished beauty expert, licensed makeup artist and esthetician. She started doing makeup services in college as a way to make money and fund her college tuition. While in college and working in the salon with her older sister, Tie discovered a natural talent for applying make-up; her exposure in the salon allowed her to showcase her work to experts and celebrities in the beauty industry. Tie has had the opportunity to have worked alongside some of the world’s top beauty companies and professionals for over a decade. Tie has coordinated national beauty shows, expos, events, campaigns and has been the Beauty Coordinator for Miami and New York Fashion Week.
Tie’s passion has always been to minister to her subjects through beauty. As a result of Tie’s passions in the beauty field, she saw a need in the beauty industry and founded in 2014 a non profit 501c3, called Hi-BeauTea Party, a scholarship fundraiser for beauty students to obtain their licenses. In addition, Tie recently launched a luxury beauty line, Beau Tie Cosmetics, LLC.
Her purpose when curating Beau Tie Cosmetics, LLC was to celebrate the timeless allure and sophistication of beautiful black women in vintage Hollywood. By embracing their legacy by crafting products that educate on and honor their iconic style while catering to their diverse beauty needs of today’s women. Through innovation, inclusivity, and a deep appreciation for the trailblazers who left an incredible mark on the world of beauty. Striving to inspire confidence and radiance in every shade, embodying the essence of classic glamour for modern times.
Tie’s life purpose and mission is to help women discover their internal and external beauty through increased self love.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful insights in my journey within the beauty industry that I can offer advice for those who are early in their entrepreneurial journey in this field is to source your passion. Passion for beauty and cosmetics is a driving force behind successful beauty entrepreneurs. What gives me fuel is my creativity and innovation, that helped me create unique products or services that stand out in the market. Keeping a journal or digital record of your ideas is key and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
Understanding the fundamentals of business, including marketing, finance, and operations, is crucial for success in the beauty industry. Knowing how to effectively market your products or services, manage finances, and operate efficiently can make or break your venture.
Lastly, always remain a student when in this trade. Its so important to identify trends, preferences, and gaps in the beauty industry. This will help you tailor your products or services to meet customer needs. Remember that success in the beauty industry often requires patience, perseverance, and a willingness to learn from both successes and setbacks. Continuously educate yourself, adapt to changes in the market, and stay true to your passion for beauty to thrive as a beauty entrepreneur.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Remember that feeling overwhelmed is a common as I have this feeling at least once or twice a week if not more. I typically take a quick reset or break. Recently, I’ve reprioritized ME by setting myself up to feel and look my best! Its done wonders with my confidence, growth and relationships. Finding what works best for you may take some trial and error, so be patient with yourself and make self-care a priority in your life.
