Meet Ashanti Williams

We were lucky to catch up with Ashanti Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ashanti, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Having a child with Autism changed my life completely. It was a challenging journey, but it also opened up a whole new world of understanding and compassion. Through my experiences with my son, I founded An Autastic Dream Inc. with the mission of helping families who are going through similar struggles. I believe that every family touched by Autism deserves access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As the CEO of An Autastic Dream Inc., I create inclusive events that provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals with Autism and their families to be themselves. I truly believe that everyone deserves a chance to fulfill their dreams and have fun doing so. What’s exciting is that we have plans to expand our offerings to the community by opening up an indoor sensory resource and recreational play center. We want to create a space where individuals with Autism can explore, learn, and play in a safe and supportive environment. We’re committed to helping our community thrive and can’t wait to see what comes next!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Having 10 years of personal knowledge and experience allowed me to create impactful and effective programs and services. My three most impactful qualities are: my knowledge, compassion, and dedication. By being knowledgeable about Autism and its challenges, I can better serve and support individuals with Autism. My compassion helps me understand and connect with other parents and clients, and being dedicated keeps me committed to finding new and innovative solutions to support the families and individuals touched by Autism.

Starting a business or non-profit can be a challenging, but incredibly rewarding journey. My advice for those who are early in their journey is to build a strong support network, stay committed to your vision, and be open to learning along the way. Seek out mentors and resources in your field, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Stay true to your mission and values and keep pushing forward even when faced with challenges. Remember that every step you take, no matter how small, is a step towards achieving your goals.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I have had many allies who have helped me along the way. My very first sponsors who have now become my first corporate partners, Mr. Bill Farrior and Ms. Morgan Farrior of Farrior and Sons, Inc in Farmville NC, have been essential in the growth and development of my vision and organization. I would also like to acknowledge my dedicated board members, as well as my supportive children, family, and friends for their continuous support and encouragement.
