We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsey Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsey below.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I owe it to my parents. I have a mom and a dad who both always maintain high levels or productivity and always kept me on my toes and busy growing up. Weekends always involved chores and yard work. My mom was the master cleaner, organizer, decorator, gardener, and cooked dinner every night, while my dad did landscaping, home renovation projects, and built furniture in his time off from work. We weren’t a tv household, we really earned our keep and those values have been instilled in me. I love to stay active and engaged in always making progress and improvements in my personal life and my business. I know that my strong work ethic has been integral in growing this business over the years. Sometimes people forget that manifesto really takes action alongside faith and gratitude. As the boss, I am required to show up every day and do all that I can, without someone telling me to do it. Now I am grateful that I had two parents who pushed me daily, so now it’s just engrained in me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I did not intend to start a business. After struggling with digestive issues and a weakened immune system for years, I experienced a profound transformation after incorporating a cup of bone broth into my daily routine. I realized that the better I felt, the more I was able to give, and the more I was able to enjoy my life. I knew that if others could feel that too, the ripple effect would be exponential.
That’s why I have remained true to my values while growing OWL. We source the best quality produce and bones available and don’t package in plastic to maintain a minimum waste policy. We are extremely proud to say we put people and the planet first. That’s how I’m able to stand behind what we do and pour my entire being into getting more goodness out into the world.
Growing this business and connecting with so many individuals who have also experienced profound healing and transformation, has been the greatest gift. Hearing how OWL’s products have helped people in so many different ways, has kept me going and moving through every moment of doubt.
OWL celebrates living our best, ONE WHOLE LIFE. We are here to make healing fun and supportive, especially for those who are feeling unwell. I wanted to create products that were not only delicious but vibrant, colorful, and nourishing. This was never just a bone broth company to me – it was a lifestyle, a movement. That’s why we have expanded our offerings and hired certified health coaches, built an online community, and offer free resources on our blog so that our customers can feel supported on their healing journeys.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Persistence I would have gotten nowhere if it weren’t for my willingness to be persistence. If people didn’t get back to me, I emailed again. If people said no, I asked why. I offered solutions. I allowed my passion to push through any resistance. I reached out again. I told my story to anyone who would hear it and embraced opportunities at every turn.
2. Resilience
Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. There’s so many challenges to overcome and uncomfortable growth that happens along the way. Knowing it’s all part of it and moving forward anyways. Maybe faith is more accurate than resilience. Keep going and believe it will all work out.
3. Intuition
People are always quick to offer their opinions and thoughts on what you are doing and how you are doing it. Listen to yourself above all else. Tune into that quiet voice inside that always knows. Pun intended – go with your gut!
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
We are currently working on moving our production to a comanufacturer. We have always done our own manufacturing, and for a multitude of reasons, it’s time for us to move into a different phase of business and a different way of doing things. Growth is uncomfortable and when you are a scaling business, you find yourself in the discomfort often. Understand it’s part of it and in these inevitable moments- stay clear on your vision, be specific, have faith that everything is working out for your greater good, and have gratitude for every good thing that comes your way.
