Hi Sunshine, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I guess you can say I got my work ethic from my mother. I grew up in a single-parent home, and I always saw how hard my mother worked to take care of my brother and me. My mother has always made sure we had everything we needed and wanted including love and attention. I want to be able to do the same for her. So, I work hard in order to be able to take care of my mom one day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an artist who specializes in photography art. I have been doing photography art for about 5 years and it has opened some doors and has allowed me to me great people. What’s special about my photography art is I am the muse/model in all of my work. My work is a collection of different photographer’s work. With their permission I am able to showcase my work and share it with everyone as I see fit. I started my business Black Sunshine because that’s exactly who I am. A black female artist whose name is Sunshine. All of my art work is aa reflection of how I view the female form. Strong, confident, and artistic. I have been blessed to be able to attend Miami Art Week in December from the 6-10. I am also excited about the future events and art shows I will be attending in 2024 as well as planning my third solo art show.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Networking, Communication, and Confidence. All three has worked wonders for me. It has allowed me to get in rooms I thought were impossible for me. My advice to anyone starting their art journey is to just do it! Build your confidence to put yourself out there. After you do that, learn how to network because your network is your net worth. Next build better communication skills so you can afford to be in rooms with people who you need in your life to advance.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
One of my biggest obstacle is marketing and advertising my art. Since my art does include nudity, it can be hard to have my art displayed in certain places and spaces. Although it is very tasteful art, some people find it taboo. To overcome that, I try to search for people who are in the market for the art that I create. It can be hard sometimes, but they are out there and they do appreciate my work. As long as I don’t give up, I can succeed.
