We recently connected with Kardell Sims and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kardell , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Being through so much in life. My mother having me at 16 and my older sister at 13 years old. My father wasn’t involved in my life and my alcoholic grandmother raised me. From the age of 15 to 39 I’ve been in juvenile detention center, 2 foster homes, county jail 9 times and prison 5 times(state and federal)
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I run programs, create content and host reentry workshops for Correctional Institutions.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Hustle, Attitude, Vision, and Education
Have a positive mental attitude and have faith that you can become what you want, create a vision and educate yourself on how to manifest that vision and then work hard to manifest that vision
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Asking for help, knowledge and information. And know when it comes to accomplishing things to ask who not how
