Meet Jasmine Maurer

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Maurer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.

Jasmine, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Realizing that self-care is essential for mental health I ensure that I make time to enjoy things that make me happy. My self-care regimen includes being in nature, reading, traveling, getting massages, and setting healthy boundaries. Taking time for myself has benefited my mental health in many ways. It frees up energy to assist others and if I am aware of my own mental capacities and limitations, I am able to be present for others.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Under Construction Stability in the Making Incorporated is all about assisting others! Our approach to creating effective change is to be culturally aware, we believe that you should ask what is needed instead of telling a community that you are not a part of what you are going to do for them. When you make an effort to get to know the people that you want to help, they feel seen and are more receptive to your offers. Currently we are creating a program for tenth through twelfth graders to bridge the gap for life skills training. The program will include a range of topics such as running a household, finances, and entrepreneurship. We are creating partnerships with different school systems to gain insight into the programs that are offered and what the administration thinks is needed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Throughout life I have had to learn to be resilient, resourceful, and ambitious. which in my opinion is needed to pursue your dreams. I advise that you first make a plan, do research and talk to people who have done what you want to do, Be careful who you talk to because if others don’t see the vision their conversation could discourage you.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Right now gathering information from teachers and other administrators who are already strained for time has proven to be difficult. To overcome this, we are planning to partner with the school system instead of individuals and we are offering an incentive to complete the questionnaire.
