We were lucky to catch up with Paul Rossi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Paul, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Mainly from my struggles in life. I was able to persevere after being faced with adversity. I still struggle with PTSD / anxiety and depression. I’ve battled alcoholism nearly my entire life. I’m proud to say that I recently celebrated 19 years of sobriety. I’ve lost everything and found myself in prison for a barfight during my dark days of drinking heavily after the military. I’ve managed to rebound and get back everything I’ve lost and then more.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actor who fell into the business after years of successfully working as an undercover investigator. I honestly had no idea how flawlessly it transferred into acting.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think being able to relate to all facets of life have been a huge advantage for me as an actor. I grew up in a low income project and worked hard to get where I am now. Keeping that humility and mentality that you’re no better than anyone else, but better you were.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents were both hard workers. My mother worked rotating shifts in a paper mill while taking care of four children. We all understood the value of hard work.
