We were lucky to catch up with Joe Clarke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Joe Clarke, and I’m the founder of Backrow Studios, an independent film company based in Beverly Hills. We currently have 8 feature films available for streaming in over 165 countries. We just launched an online screenwriting series called “Script Mastery: A Crash Course in Feature Film Screenwriting.” This program aims to provide aspiring screenwriters with essential knowledge and skills to write a feature length script. More details can be found at www.backrowstudios.com. Earlier this year, I also published a book called “The Tao of Hollywood,” a tool to help artists on their creative pursuits.
In addition to these projects, I’m actively involved in various feature film endeavors at different stages of development. One of them is “Homeys,” an eye opening documentary that follows unhoused artists living in the streets of LA. “Homeys” is produced byAcademy Award-winning filmmaker Ira Wohl, who previously won the Best Documentary award in 1980 for his film “Best Boy.” We are excited about the direction of Backrow, and are looking to grow and expand in the years to come!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion. Awareness of ego. Having fun.
