We were lucky to catch up with Raby Bah recently and have shared our conversation below.
Raby , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Building self-confidence and self-esteem for me has been a journey marked by self-awareness, goal- setting, resilience, and learning from my experiences. Understanding my strengths and weaknesses allowed me to set achievable goals, and with every accomplishment, no matter how small, my confidence grew. I learned that challenges are opportunities for growth, and failures are valuable lessons, not setbacks. A supportive network of family, friends, and mentors who believed in me played a pivotal role, as did changing my self-talk from self-doubt to self-affirmation. Moreover, the joy of sharing my experiences and assisting others in their journeys not only enriched my life but also bolstered my self-confidence. It’s an ongoing process, and every day offers new chances to build and strengthen my self-esteem.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Please tell our readers about what you do, what you feel is most exciting or special about it, as well as anything else you’d like folks to know about your brand/art/etc. If relevant, please also tell our readers about anything new (events, product/service launches, expansion, etc.)
I founded Owl Learning with a profound sense of purpose, driven by my diverse experiences and a passion for language education. As a former Process Operations Manager, an engineer, and a polyglot, my love for languages was ingrained early in life, having grown up bilingual. My inspiration for Owl Learning came from recognizing the limited opportunities for children in the United States to become bilingual. Witnessing my parent’s dedication in founding a school in Guinea, Africa, with the goal of offering better educational options for their children, left a profound impact on me. It instilled in me the importance of accessible, quality learning experiences.
At Owl Learning, our mission is to bridge the foreign language gap in the United States by providing immersion language programs for elementary school students. Our unique approach empowers both parents and students with tailored virtual programs, focusing on early language acquisition for cognitive, social, and academic benefits.
In response to the growing demand for language learning resources, we’ve expanded our offerings to include tutoring, adult lessons, and homeschool programs. Owl Learning now serves learners of all ages, acknowledging the lifelong advantages of language education. Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for the future. Owl Learning is expanding its after-school enrichment programs to more elementary schools nationwide, establishing partnerships for comprehensive language education programs. Additionally, we are developing a line of high-quality workbooks and learning materials for language learners, available to both our students and the broader market. We’re also introducing immersive language-focused summer camps, offering intensive language learning combined with cultural exploration. These camps provide continuous language development during the summer break.
At Owl Learning, we’re dedicated to transforming the language education landscape, inspired by my experiences and a vision of making accessible, quality language learning a reality for children across the United States, while enriching the lives of learners of all ages.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
• What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Balancing your focus between your strengths and areas where you’re not as strong is the key to personal and professional growth. Embracing your strengths allows you to excel in areas of natural talent, often leading to the most significant impact and personal satisfaction. However, investing in areas of weakness is equally important. It ensures you’re not held back by limitations and fosters adaptability, vital in our ever-changing world. Collaboration and innovation often thrive in well-rounded teams, where diverse strengths come together. Additionally, personal growth and the discovery of new passions can arise from venturing into areas outside your comfort zone. The ideal approach involves optimizing your strengths while maintaining a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring you are not only well-rounded but also adaptable, creative, and open to new opportunities.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
• If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When considering the three most important qualities to develop, resilience, empathy, and adaptability stand out as essential traits. Resilience equips individuals with the strength to navigate life’s challenges, bounce back from setbacks, and continually learn from failures. It underpins personal growth and success. Empathy, on the other hand, is the cornerstone of meaningful relationships, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork. Those who possess this quality can understand and share the feelings of others, making for more compassionate and harmonious interactions. Lastly, adaptability is an invaluable skill in our ever-changing world. The ability to adjust to new conditions, embrace change, and thrive in uncertain environments is a hallmark of those who excel in diverse situations. Developing these qualities not only enriches individual lives but also contributes to the betterment of society through positive and resilient interactions.
