Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cree Clay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cree, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Becoming confident within myself has been a journey! Meditation, affirmations, self-help books and detachment have all helped me to become more confident. Meditation allows me to focus only on the present moment and be mindful that the only thing that matters is right now, not the past as it can’t be changed and not trying to micromanage or control the future. Yoga is another practice that helps with mindfulness for me.
Affirmations have been a game changer for me! When I first started doing affirmations, it was a challenge for me to believe them. I continued to practice affirmations on a regular basis and I noticed that when I started thinking more positively, more and more positive things started to happen for me. Instead of expecting the worst outcome of things, I started focusing on positive outcomes. I now expect that only good things will happen for me and I believe that everything works out in my favor in the end.
Detachment is a skill that I am currently working on as well. I realized that I can’t control other people’s actions or behaviors. Most importantly, I learned that how other people treat me has nothing to do with me and everything to do with their character. I finally realized that I have worth and value even if the people surrounding me don’t see it. Detachment is simply allowing things to be as they are and acceptance of this truth without expecting a specific outcome from someone or something.
Practicing Meditation, Affirmations and Detachment have definitely made me more confident overall, as I realized I can only control myself. I release myself from the expectations of others and I know that I will attract everything that is meant for me by being my most authentic, radiant self.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am currently a Psychiatry Resident and I am almost done with my training. It has been a long journey to get to this point with 4 years of College, 4 years of Medical School and 4 years of Residency.
I started Pretty Girl Practice during my first year of Medical School as a way to document my journey of becoming a Physician. I am the first Physician in my family and I desire to inspire others to follow their dreams, whatever that may be, if thats becoming a Doctor or whatever else. Nothing in life worth having comes easy but it always be worth it in the end. I am a testimony that believing in yourself and that hard work definitely pays off. Pretty Girl Practice is a positive space of authenticity, freedom and inspiration to follow your dreams. I am looking forward to building a community of like minded people who are passionate about living life to the fullest and living the life of your dreams. Literally nothing is impossible. ““Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” -Henry Ford
I am currently focused on growing a following on Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok so be sure to follow!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience – Bouncing back after hard times is a must! Just because you’re down for a moment doesn’t mean you have to stay down. I truly am a testimony that once you’ve hit rock bottom, the only way to go after that is up. Keep in mind that you’ve survived all of your hardest days thus far. One day you’ll look back and be amazed at how far you came. Pivot, change directions, go down a different path if you have to but don’t give up on yourself. I love this quote: “Every storm runs out of rain.” –Maya Angelou Optimism – Life will always have difficult moments but with mindfulness and meditation practices, you will rest assured and confident that everything ultimately works out in your favor in the end. If it’s not okay quite yet, it’s not the end. It’s important to have healthy coping strategies to rely on when things get difficult and that will realign your positive energy. For me, that is pouring into myself – by reading, writing in my journal, affirmations, listening to podcasts, exercising regularly, being out in nature, upgrading my wardrobe and enhancing my personal appearance.. All of these activities realign my focus and allow me to be my best self. No matter what type of day I’m having, it is quickly turned around.
Authenticity – Being my most authentic self has been a key factor to my success. God created me to be exactly who I am and I finally realized that there are people in the world that will love me for me exactly the way that I am. I am a magnet for attracting people from all walks of life that are dreamers, manifestors and creatives just by being myself. Don’t get me wrong, showing up as my most authentic self does not come without its challenges. I attract certain people and quickly repel others but that is the entire process of alignment. Remember the world needs you to show up exactly who you are and you will be amazed at what opportunities start coming your way. Building my own personal brand has been a key factor in being authentic as that is what sets me apart from the rest. There will never be another you, remember that!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz within the past year and it was life changing for me. The 4 Agreements are to be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions and always do your best. I only have one chance at this life and I recognize the importance of living intentionally every single day. I am consciously focused on creating the life of my dreams. It is so important for me to live a life that I am extremely passionate about. I want to live, laugh and love to the fullest without restrictions, hesitation or fear. I only want to be surrounded by other people that are doing the same.
