Meet Obatalia Yemoshunya

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Obatalia Yemoshunya . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Obatalia, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
My effectiveness would be nonexistent without time in nature, intentionally scheduled bubbles of stillness, and immaculate care of the temple that houses my soul. The impact of these self-care nutrients blooms forth fruit in the form of delicious relationships. I have embodied several roles, responsibilities, and career paths, and yes, I have even found hidden pathways to thrive within the chaos of grave and traumatic challenges. My relationships have been a solid rock for me to position myself to maintain my footing on the shores of unpredictable waves and choppy waters. To be effective is to be communicative, and to be communicative requires that my self-care involves an honest communion with me. This self-respect benefits all of my “ships,” and makes me wildly effective and profoundly impactful.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I do a lot of nothing until it’s time for me to do something. This non-doing makes space for my wizardry. Until recently, I referred to myself as a yoga teacher. One, because it is the truth, and two, it is easy to digest. Now, I will say that I embody my genius in the form of the esoteric arts and make literal and metaphorical tinctures in the forms of tools and experiences that breathe life into the spiritual essence of one’s being.

Tuning in with the element of space, I curate songs, meditations, affirmations, hypnosis, and subliminal messages designed to break through the layers of the unconscious mind, to love on the stories we tell ourselves, and uncreate the agreements we make under the influence of undetectable radio signals in the airwaves and the lyrics in popular music.

I ally with the air element of the mind and intellect to intentionally conjure books, courses, orations, guides, guest articles, science-backed papers, games, and card decks to impart wisdom that I pray lives on long after my bones are dust.

Water, fire, earth, wood, and metal are found in my medicine bag of wired curios, flower adornments, tinctures, teas, and artfully curated herbal supplements to assist with maintaining the body’s natural state of perfect health. These offerings converge at live experiences such as nude yoga, medicine ceremonies, and reunions designed to connect, reconcile trauma in safe cyphers, and celebrate our ancestors.

As a performance artist, I find ways to make it fun, like movement immersions where laughter, silliness, and the occasional queef are the bread and butter of comfort and safety for those present. The soul sound circle that opens the movement experience requires that we all harmonize as one in music.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention my Financial Domination work. An alchemical blend of all of the elements–a tantra-based education system developed to reform those who have a hard time loving themselves–including but not limited to habitual liars, gaslighters, and misogynists. I hold sacred space for a journey of rebirth through three levels of self-investment to assist qualified submissives with dissolving the ties that bind them to mindsets that are harmful to themselves and society.

My esoteric arts and metaphorical tinctures are like sturdy branches on my tree of pleasure and prosperity. I tried hard to color inside of the lines, keep it cute, do one thing, and master it after years of applied effort; however, I have realized that I wasn’t born to perpetuate that narrative.

In one of my self-published journals, Dream Awake Tarot 101 Playbook, I mention figuring out what your BIG thing is and devoting more of yourself to this effort. My BIG thing has always been music and I have known this since I was a little girl; yet, I would not have half of the soulful sound I’m imbued with, if not for the experiences in my life inclusive of all the career paths, chaos, and efforts I have made to invest in myself.

I am cultivating an online apothecary to house all my literal and metaphorical herbs and spices to ally with those who feel aligned with this BIG energy to vibe with a real one. All Ashanti Gumbo™ self-investors can apply to become affiliates and circulate more sustainable wealth in our community. I gently invite you to visit the ashantigumbo.store to learn more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful and authentic embodiment of my truth comes from three self-love skills. (1) one, release the fear of disappointing others, (2) two, listen to the messages in your body’s sensations, and (3) three, finish what you start while remaining flexible with how your vision acutalizes itself in perfect timing. For those who feel the call to operate within the frequency of impeccability, the preceding proverbs are practical insights for honing all three superpowers.

One: Release the fear of disappointing others
Only commit to agreements that feel like a full-bodied fuck yes.
Reshape the urge to please and appease to the point of self-rejection.
Hand your yes out like it’s a fucking golden ticket. To be candid, I like for my yes to pay me royally and I gotta feel it in my coochie. It’s primal but it’s honest.

Two: Listen to the messages in your body’s sensations
Your body is equipped from birth with an ancient intelligence that often defies the logic of the thinking mind. The muscle responses to certain instances are not gonna lie to you. They are designed to keep you safe. If shit doesn’t feel good in your being, in a place you can’t quite put your finger on, don’t ponder too heavily on the “reason” why. Sometimes reason has its’ usefulness, and at other times, we just have our gut–our true reasoning mind that looks a whole lot like another brain.

Three: finish what you start while remaining flexible in how your vision actualizes in perfect timing.
Be systemized. Create your own algorithm for how you manage your life. Embody the practice of writing down the tasks associated with whatever you do regularly and build your own lifestyle/business operations manual. This is a genius-level life decision that yields incredible dividends because it will require a critical assessment of habits. This is good because you will find out if your patterns are bringing your projects closer to full fruition or if they are taking you farther away, and if it is the latter, you now have the data you need to pivot. In the long run, you will also have the advantage when it becomes necessary for you to delegate tasks so that you have the space to focus on that which is truly essential.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Ashantigumbo.store affiliates are always welcome. I invite everyone who experiences the magic, to share their stories and cultivate passive income by using their pay links if they so desire. Honest product reviews, reposted/shared stories, and mentions on social media are always helpful as social proof goes such a long way.

Additionally, I am partnering with creatives willing to invest their sweat equity and value luxury, travel, and adventure. Imaginative souls willing to co-develop an audiovisual album based on a self-published manga that is part animation and part live-action scripted series centering on the unique nuances of “black love.” Within the series, we approach the topic of tantra in the form of essential elements that make such a complex study a little easier to comprehend–amplifying the audience’s character development and ability to reflect and apply the wisdom gleaned from each episode. I am inviting potential financial backers, screen writers, actors, animators, cinematographers, voice-over artists, graphic designers, sound engineers, PR professionals, hair and makeup artists, wardrobe stylists, set designers, and other sound/film professionals to come together in the community to have this vision come into fruition since many hands make light work. All energy/skill investors will share ownership and be compensated for the income that is generated from the art’s monetization.
