Meet Alonzo Wright

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alonzo Wright. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Alonzo, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Confidence and self-esteem were two things that were embedded in me by my mother as a child. I spent considerable time focusing on my gifts as a child. Like most things, my confidence was developed by putting the things I learned into practice and constantly seeking feedback for refinement.  Through that continuous process, I gained confidence and trust in my decisions and the steps I was taking.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an energetic creator and a lifelong learner. I am passionate about empowering creative voices. I have been an artist for many years, and now, as a man of faith, I want to use my skills, both hard and soft, to spread the gospel. I believe we need more content in mainstream media that feeds our souls. Therefore, I aim to start a media company within 2-3 years that produces content promoting spiritual well-being.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that had the most impact on me in my journey are (1) Faith, (2) Resilience, and (3) Being a lifelong student.

Even if faith is not your thing, life is hard, and having the tools and resources necessary to remain resilient has been instrumental in my journey. If you are early on, I would advise you never to stop learning. About yourself, the world around you, and the people in it. Your impact is more significant than you’re aware of. You can improve in any of these areas by reading literature surrounding any of those aspects, seeking feedback from a mentor or trusted friend or family member, and applying that guidance when necessary.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The Bible, obviously, however, a great book I recently read that opened my eyes to many of the practical obstacles I faced is “The Mountain is You” by Brianna Wiest. A few things that stuck out to me were:

“Usually, when we have a problem that is circumstantial, we are facing the reality of life. When we have a problem that is chronic, we are facing the reality of ourselves. We often think that to face a mountain means to face life’s hardships, but the truth is that it is almost always because of the years we have spent accumulating tiny traumas, adaptations, and coping mechanisms, all of which have compounded over time” (Wiest, 1).

And lastly…

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.

It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction.

It’s going to cost you relationships and friends.

It’s going to cost you being liked and understood.

It doesn’t matter.

The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side. You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward. Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of being understood, you’re going to be seen.
All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are” (Wiest, 1)
