Throughout my training and career as a concept artist I’ve found that creativity blocks are a natural obstacle that comes with a creative path. To me, it’s about identifying what is blocking me; sometimes I’ve used up all my creative energies and I need to engage with more art, media and nature around me, other times the task is either too challenging or too easy and I need to find a new direction, set new goals. And some other times, perhaps all that is needed is some sense of community and sharing of ideas. Read more>>

Burn out is serious in an industry where independent artists are more-so the accounting department, marketing department, social media development, etc. A lot of the time the music we learn for jobs is not something that feeds our soul but we like to approach everything with the outlook that whatever we play is developing something new on our instrument and we play every job to the best of our ability, taking no short cuts. I’ve been reading this book for quite some time now (I say “quite some time” as I’m a very slow reader and I get distracted easily and can only read a few pages at a time) and the author, Elizabeth Gilbert, refers to ideas as energies, or almost spirits, that cross your path and you can either take them and use them or not.
