One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
As a mompreneur and a permanent makeup artist in a market that’s becoming increasingly saturated, I’ve always believed in the power of adaptability and continuous learning to keep my creativity alive and thriving. My journey is a vibrant tapestry of colors, shapes, and a constant quest for innovation.
Picture me with my beautiful toddler, juggling motherhood and entrepreneurship with the grace of a tightrope walker. Every day, I start with a fresh canvas, eager to paint the story of my life.
To stay at the top of my creative game, I’ve become a dedicated student of my craft. I’ve invested in myself by learning from the best in the industry. I’m like a sponge, absorbing the wisdom and insights of experts through courses, workshops, and online tutorials. The beauty of the digital age is that it offers a treasure trove of knowledge at my fingertips.
But it’s not just about gathering knowledge; it’s about how I apply it. I’ve mastered the art of integrating these lessons into my work, injecting new life and vibrancy into my craft. Like a true artist, I mix and match, blend and contrast, until I find my unique flow. .
I’ve also embraced technology as a powerful ally. It’s allowed me to diversify my services in innovative ways. For instance, I now offer digital courses in addition to traditional in person classes, opening up a world of possibilities. This adaptation not only sets me apart in the market but also broadens my reach to clients who prefer digital formats.
But let’s not forget the importance of self-care. As a mother, finding moments for myself can be a challenge, but I understand that nurturing my creative spirit is essential. So, I steal precious moments to daydream, sketch, or just observe the world around me. These quiet moments become the wellspring of my creativity.
Networking with fellow artists, entrepreneurs, and parents is another essential brushstroke in my canvas of success. The connections I’ve made have not only provided moral support but have also introduced fresh perspectives and collaborations. Our shared experiences inspire me to push my creative boundaries even further.
And, of course, my child plays a huge role in this tapestry of my life. She is biggest source of inspiration. Her curiosity, unbridled imagination, and the uninhibited way she approaches life remind me of the pure essence of creativity. I am grateful to be able to involve her in my creative processes, when I am trying to create a funny social media post or live video for my audience. It’s a way for me to bond with my daughter while ensuring my sharing is deeply rooted in authenticity.
In a saturated market, staying relevant requires a tireless commitment to innovation and learning. I, as a mompreneur and a permanent makeup artist, I embrace this challenge with open arms. Each day is a new opportunity to learn, adapt, and create. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back to the beginning of my journey as a permanent makeup artist that began in 2018, here are three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact on my journey:
1. Artistic Skill and Technique: Your core competence as a permanent makeup artist lies in your artistic skill and technique. The ability to create precise, beautiful, and long-lasting enhancements on a client’s face is the foundation of your business. I continually critique my work and attend classes to improve certain skills that I need to develop.
To develop and improve your skills: Practice regularly and consistently. Work on various skin tones, types, and facial features to hone your skills. Invest in continuous training and workshops to learn new techniques, stay updated on industry trends, and refine your craft. Seek feedback from clients and peers. Constructive criticism can be invaluable for your growth as an artist.
2. Client Communication and Relationship Building: Building strong, trusting relationships with your clients is essential. Excellent client communication ensures that you understand their needs and desires, while also managing expectations effectively. I would not be where I am today with out my loyal clients who continue to come to me for services and refer to me to their friends and family.
To improve in this area: Practice active listening to fully understand your client’s goals and concerns. Develop empathy and patience. Clients may have fears or uncertainties, and it’s crucial to address them with compassion. Be transparent and honest about what can be achieved realistically. Trust is built on honesty.
3. Business and Marketing Acumen: As an entrepreneur in the beauty industry, you need a solid grasp of business management, marketing, and branding to succeed. These skills enable you to manage your studio effectively and attract clients. Keep in mind you cannot do everything on your own. You will need to find professionals in the areas where you lack expertise and trust them to help you grow your business.
To develop these skills: Invest time in learning about business operations, budgeting, and financial management. You may consider taking small business courses or working with a mentor. Develop a strong online presence through a professional website and social media platforms to showcase your work and connect with potential clients. Understand the importance of customer service and word-of-mouth marketing. Happy clients become loyal clients and brand advocates.
For those early in their journey as permanent makeup artists and entrepreneurs, remember that growth and improvement take time and patience. Don’t be discouraged by initial setbacks or challenges. Continuously seek opportunities to learn, whether through formal education or by networking with experienced professionals in your industry. Be open to feedback, and don’t hesitate to adjust your techniques and strategies as you gain experience. Your journey will be a process of constant learning and evolution, so stay committed, persistent, and passionate about your craft.
