Meet Steve Gandolfi

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Steve Gandolfi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Steve, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Does an editor ever get over imposter syndrome? I wake up most mornings feeling the pressure of my work, but I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. It sort of fuels me in a way. I adore what I do and the anxiety about whether or not I think I do it well pushes me to work my hardest. To settle myself—which is a very important step in my process—I do martial arts or some type of exercise each morning. When I enter the office I’m still apprehensive, but my work is my passion so I enjoy that brief uncomfortable moment, then I push it aside and get the job done. The pay off is seeing the emotional reactions to my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We are grateful to say that our company is a multi-award winning global post production company specializing in all forms of branded social media content across all platforms, short and long format. Our process begins once the footage has been shot (and sometimes before if we’re lucky). We receive dailies to edit, color and finish. The most exciting part of the job is when we turn the vision into reality and see the reaction. Also, there are times when the vision can’t be the reality, so it’s our job to turn it into a new reality that still invokes the right emotion.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Be humble, act humble and stay humble. The word is bigger than its description in the dictionary. The ability to learn, understand, listen and respect people is vital to growth both in your career and as a person. No one can get anywhere alone.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We’re always looking to collaborate with anyone who has a strong creative eye and passion for life and what they do.
