We recently connected with Tosha Writes and have shared our conversation below.
Tosha , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I learned from being an introvert. I was already comfortable being the only one in the room so watching people became the skill I developed. It started when I was a kid and now it is something that’s second nature to me now. I have always been in my own head and now I am able to pour those things into my books.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an author who enjoys writing reality fiction books. I also enjoy writing poetry which was how I got started in writing. I am also a mother of two kids, I have a 14 1/2-year-old son and a 21-year-old daughter. I have been happily married for 22 years now to my husband Jeff who is also my manager and Video Promo Guy. I am a sneakerhead and a huge fan of Hip Hop. I have a YouTube Channel catered to Hip Hop that I share on a platform with my husband called Take It To The Lab. Currently, I am working on my next installment in my 10-book series called The Code Keepers and getting prepared for books to release in 2024.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One I would say is to become a planner. I plan everything that I do from personal things that are important to me in my life to my books. It helps keep me on top of things and meet deadlines that I set for myself. Second, I would say once you have your plan in place, be consistent. If your plan is solid then you should be able to hit your target every time no matter what as long as you repeat when needed. Third I would say get you a solid circle of like-minded people around you. Not Yes Men and Women. There is nothing like having people around that motivate you and keep you going. A great circle bounces ideas off of each other and keeps your wheels turning so more ideas can develop.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My current challenge or obstacle is trusting everything I have learned over the years and letting it all flow through my writing. I have been working on this for a while now and have progressed some. I am a true believer in meditation which keeps me at ease and in the flow of positive energy. This is a must for me when dealing with life and the many hats I wear between being a wife, a mother, and now an author.
