We recently connected with Brydric Wright and have shared our conversation below.
Brydric , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
At an early age, I was definitely bullied in school for being overweight, but those moments never made me feel low enough to lose my confidence. Was I sad, yes, mad – of course, but there is always a new day ahead if we decide to live it.
Good energy and confidence has to grow from within first, not given from someone else. My mental was sharpened, strengthened, and enhanced through my faith, self reflections, and creativity. I do not seek confidence from others, I have my own garden to constantly tend to and the flowers are blossoming.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I embrace the human body with the finest materials draped and measured to your form. You guessed it, I’m a fashion designer!
What I enjoy the most is seeing the smile and joy on my client’s face when wearing my designs. Their courage and self esteem lighting up the room as they journey to their special occasion is their superpower, and my specialty.
On October 6, I received the 2023 Fashion Designer of the Year award from the Texas Fashion Industry Initiative. This year alone I have shown at 12 shows in which I’ve shown at Dallas, NW Arkansas, Kansas City, and Texas Fashion Week.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Self awareness. Knowing who I am as a person allowed me to brand my collection and give way to my aesthetic and brand voice.
Sketching and draping are collectively my tickets into this fashionable world. Sketching primarily led me to this creative space and I prefer to sketch out my ideas before going into fabric, but there are many times where the fabric speaks to me first when dressed on the form.
My background in merchandise marketing allows me to sell and market effectively, while staying on brand. With over 10+ years in the event and marketing industry, I am able to implement the best and most current business practices for my brand.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Exposure was my mission going into 2023. With that thought in mind, I set focus on researching upcoming shows/fashion weeks through social media and fashion-related networking events.
By February, I gained traction with show producers, photographers, and, even stylists. I was booked with clients, or preparing a collection EVERY MONTH going forward.
This plan of action helped me reach more sales, gain social media followers, and branch more leads to industry professionals that have supported my business.
