Meet Carolina Hernandez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carolina Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Carolina , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity comes from being a Navy Veteran and the fact that I deployed to multiple countries. During the time when I went away for long periods of time I learned to appreiate the little things that matter the most in life sharing what you have and being kind to people because you never know what could happen next. Also, working for veteran Stand Together non-profit organization serving our community has given me the motivation to continue looking for more resources and share them with our veterans.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I work as the public affairs of Veterans Stand Together non-profit organization and also as a Fashion Designer and owner of Veteran Couture Inc. Part of my duties includes managing social media platforms and creating marketing content to support our workshops contributing to veteran-centric events. Some of the trainings that VST offers are: Professional Security Officer, PMP, CNA, OSHA 30, CPR certifications, and Prepare for your Success workshop, to name a few.
As a Navy Veteran myself, I get to teach veterans about self-development, entrepreneurship, and how to maximize their military skills during the “Prepare for your Success” workshop. Our goal is to help veterans who need assistance while dealing with issues during their transition out of the military.
In addition to that, during community events, I support the community by bringing professional models wearing custom Veteran Couture designs that I made out of refurbished military uniforms as a way to support the event and show our appreciation to the men and women who served in the military.
The highlight of my career as a Fashion Designer is when veterans or family members take photos with my models and tell me how much they enjoy their participation during community events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back to all the mistakes I have made along my journey, I would say that reaching out for guidance is one of the most effective ways to grow because it doesn’t cost anything. Somethimes we let pride get on the way or we get afraid of rejection and we don’t ask enough questions. I believe that asking questions contributes to personal and professional growth but we must learn how to get rid of the barriers that we create for ourselves. Also, volunteering and serving an organization, business, church or a school helps increasing our awareness even if it’s for a couple of hours a week. When we engage in activities with others we get to learn new skills, develop our communicational skills and increase our network.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As a woman, veteran, latina and entreprenuer, I am constantly looking for opportunities to collaborate with nation-wide non profit organizations, business owners, community leaders, and anybody who is interested in supporing the veteran community with services, contributions or even donations. I believe if we connect with other veterans, entreprenuers, leaders, and successful people in many areas, we will be able to impact the lives of many veterans and our community at a greater scale. Sometimes, as simple as sharing a flyer or resource can go a long way. I can be contacted via email: chernandez@usavest.org or via IG: @wesupportvst
