Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Donnell Alexander. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Donnell, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My support system is the reason I was able to up build myself in the most difficult and depressing moments to growing into the man I am today. As a kid I was always alone or by myself a lot of the times so I wasn’t always able to get the reassurance within my own self because others weren’t there to help, as far as family and loved ones, that I needed to create the mindset behind it. I started to continue to work on my craft and keep faith & I knew that I could do anything through Christ, and that was all of the confidence I needed to keep me going throughout my life, in the past, present, and the future to come.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Where do I honestly begin? From being an overlooked inner-city student-athlete at Cass Technical High School to transforming into a former NFL prospect from a small division II school at Saginaw Valley State University, to now molding into a full-time Prototype Engineering Technician, small business co-owner of Lucky’s Oil, and Brand Ambassador for Money Intangibles, has been an emotional roller coaster but with God and all the support from my family and loved ones I was able to take one step at a time, with discipline, focus and consistency and continue to progress each and every day into a better man/person, and excel in all aspects career-wise, physically and mentally as well.
I invested in a natural skin/body product company called Lucky’s Oil with my childhood friend, more like my brother, Kaleif “Lucky” Gaines. We partnered together early May of this year (2023) and have been taking the market by storm ever since & sell essential natural soaps, body butters, hair growth oils & skin oils with more additional products in the near future. We have great quality for more than affordable prices starting from $6 to no more than $25 for each product. Again, all ingredients are natural, and we keep everything on hand as well as online at a limited supply. The website at the moment is under construction (luckysoil.us) but will be back up by the end of this week or next week for certain. I also have a discounted code for everyone to use (NELLDWA) for the website that gives an automatic 10% off, followed with every size to meet any financial situation. What sets us apart from others is that our services are available after hours, unlike other companies & we keep all ingredients natural with absolutely no chemical/harmful substances that will damage or affect the skin/body in any manner. As I hinted to it prior, one of our main goals is to always produce quality products for a reasonable price. I’ve also became a brand ambassador for Money Intangibles, ran by Marcus “Money” Johnson, which is a luxury streetwear clothing brand that offers different and versatile styles of fashion from hats, shirts, jackets, chest rigs, and much more. There is more that I will be indulged in, as this is just the beginning for me so stay tuned for what’s yet to come.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One thing I live by on a daily basis and that I pray about is to continue to stay focused, consistent, and to keep faith. No matter what, these are 3 of the most important qualities to have any success for whatever it is one’s self partakes in, despite who you are. Things will always be hard and they will get tough when you get closer to your goals but the key is to continue going and keep pushing.
