Hi Parris, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I began my event planning career more than a decade ago organizing and directing corporate and charitable events as the marketing manager for a multi-state title insurance and settlement law firm. I was awarded the opportunity to learn how to run a business working simultaneously for the law firm’s sister real estate school as the chief operations officer. Wearing multiple hats and driving in multiple lanes helped to create a strong work ethic. I also started my first job at 15 years old where I quickly became lead hostess and then on to lead server. I’ve always had a passion for leading and exceling.

Certainly! As a seasoned wedding planner, my primary focus is on curating unforgettable experiences for couples on their special day. With over a decade of experience in organizing and directing corporate and charitable events in the legal and real estate sectors, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a unique approach to wedding planning.
What I find most exciting and special about my work is the opportunity to turn dreams into reality. Each wedding is a unique story waiting to be told, and I take great pride in crafting personalized, one-of-a-kind experiences that reflect the couple’s personalities and aspirations. From conceptualizing the theme to coordinating every detail, I ensure that every element aligns seamlessly, creating a harmonious and magical atmosphere.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey as a wedding planner, three key qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge have been particularly impactful:
Attention to Detail: In the world of event planning, especially weddings, every detail matters. From the color scheme to the seating arrangement, every element contributes to the overall experience. Developing a keen eye for detail and a knack for precision has been instrumental in ensuring flawless execution.
– Advice: For those early in their journey, I recommend immersing yourself in the details of every event you work on. Take notes, ask questions, and observe how small decisions can have a significant impact. Practice meticulous planning and execution to hone this skill over time.
Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Events, especially weddings, are dynamic and can present unexpected challenges. Being able to adapt quickly and find creative solutions is crucial. Whether it’s a sudden change in weather or a vendor hiccup, the ability to think on your feet and keep the event running smoothly is a vital skill.
– Advice: Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Practice scenario planning and develop contingency plans for various situations. Surround yourself with a reliable team and build a network of trusted vendors who can help navigate unforeseen circumstances.
Interpersonal Skills and Communication: Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful event planning. Building strong relationships with clients, vendors, and the entire team involved is essential. Understanding the client’s vision, articulating ideas clearly, and maintaining open lines of communication are key to bringing that vision to life.
– Advice: Practice active listening and empathy. Seek feedback from clients and colleagues to refine your communication style. Invest time in building genuine relationships, as trust and collaboration are crucial in this industry.
To those starting their journey in event planning, I would advise focusing on continuous learning and gaining practical experience. Attend workshops, seminars, and networking events to expand your knowledge base and connect with industry professionals. Additionally, seek out mentorship or internships with experienced planners to gain hands-on experience and insights.
Remember, every event is a learning opportunity, and the more you immerse yourself in the process, the more you’ll refine your skills and develop your own unique approach to event planning. What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle I’m currently facing is the challenge of growing my team and scaling the business while maintaining the high level of quality and personalized service that our couples have come to expect from us. The future of Eventfully Chic by Parris holds more lead coordinators and more associate planners. To ensure we’re on the right track in bringing dedicated and highly skilled team members on board to cater to our growing clientele, I make it a point to attend an annual wedding convention. This event is tailored precisely to this endeavor, offering invaluable insights from seasoned professionals who have transitioned from wedding planning to consulting for wedding planners.
