We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsie Rae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsie below.
Hi Chelsie, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I think I get it from my Mama! I’m very lucky to have been raised by an incredibly strong, selfless woman who made sure that I understood how fortunate we were to have everything we needed. She’s taught me so much about life, love, compassion and having empathy for others so I try my best to pay good things forward when I can.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I just want to start out by saying that I feel so good about kicking off this third year of my brow microblading career! Seems like I say this all the time, but I still absolutely love what I do – I know I’m very lucky have the space for all of this art and creativity. There are so many pros and cons to being a creative in small business right now, and while I know that 2024 holds tons of exciting opportunities, it’s like I’m currently caught up in a whirlwind season of cancellations and reschedules.
To help keep myself busy and out of trouble, I promise I’m putting that extra free time to good use – all for the sake of my craft. And maybe a little bit for the sake of my sanity as well. In between my hot girl walks and heated yoga classes (because mental health matters too), I have been shadowing Honey regularly, working on fun ideas for rebranding my social media presence and of course always scouting online courses/tutorials for all things brows and freckles to further my knowledge.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Communication is key. 2. Grow from feedback.
3. Nobody is going to do the work for you.
These are the kinds of reminders I often give myself when I’m facing some kind of challenge.. Things I’ve had to keep in mind from the start and would highly recommend that others do too. Communication isn’t always just verbal, feedback allows us to see another perspective we may not have been capable of, and when it comes to owning a small business, nobody will care as much as you do.
You just have to keep an open mind and stay motivated!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I love a laid back, easy-going babe with a cool attitude! I want to make good connections with all of my clients and have us both walking away feeling good after each appointment, so ideally I just need someone who can trust the process. Bonus points always for those who leave online reviews, refer friends and family, or shout me out their social media accounts from time to time!
