Meet Dr. Brittany Soul Sharp

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Brittany Soul Sharp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dr. Brittany, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
The scene is set, May of 2022, sitting on the floor of Thomas & Mack Events Center, surrounded by thousands of graduates. I felt as comfortable as a ________________. In fact, if the people that showed up for me unexpectedly had not taken pictures, I would have assumed we’d all been delusional. What only few knew is that I’d only found out I was invited to walk at this graduation a little more than a month prior. After a very long on and off experience chipping away at this Associate Degree, I technically was missing a few credits, according to the Advisor that encouraged me to join the Graduation ceremony. She said, “since you’re transferring to UNLV for your Bachelor’s, you can just finish those classes there”. And no matter how cute my makeup and nails looked, how beautiful my flowing green dress was under the my graduation attire – I felt like at any moment someone would call me out and say – You don’t belong here!

No one did. And further, although I’m lagging in progress toward my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies as of this interview date, I’m again dumbfounded by the favor on my life. It makes even less logical sense that as of October 21st, 2023, a College in California, awarded me an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanities. I’ve never attended the school and frankly was nominated by someone attending an event I performed and spoke at in the community a few months prior. I am humbled to say, although I’ve received over fifteen awards now for my work, passion and creative arts contributions the Southern Nevada area – I still have moments where I am like, why me?

I think imposter syndrome is more about perspective more than a reality. We can acquire or create a skewed perception of ourselves, others and the world that can play a role in how navigate life. If we think everyone else has everything together, joy-thief of comparison can help us feel unqualified, unworthy, ineligible and an misfit. I’m hopeful to share a few useful tips on how I overcome such dirty lenses.

1. Breathe, deeply. And be aware of your own thoughts, self-talk, feelings and truths. Imagine yourself (or actually write down and speak aloud) every lie you’ve believed about yourself and your place in the world. Then reflect and speak all the new truths you will replace those thoughts with.

2. Consider everyone you are presently intimidated by, were previously intimidated by, and those you absolutely admire. Remember that they have their own story, journey, insecurities, flaws and hopes; just like you. Shift that energy and focus onto how being yourself involves an internal acceptance that produces external fruit. As you grow gratitude, authenticity, and release everything else – those intimidations will be sorted out & dissolved.

3. I Trust God. This is huge, because the God I love (Yahweh), happens to not require me to be “ready” or “fully equipped”, in fact, He tends to use those that are ill-equipped, unqualified and viewed as undeserving – so that we all can clap for the underdog. I am a product of the grace of my God and the willingness to walk toward Him. I couldn’t earn some of the things I’ve been blessed with if I tried. But I am grateful and willing to keep walking forward and upward.

4. Gratitude is not a feeling for a day or two, it is a perspective. I view through the lense of Gratefulness, and it positions me to receive and recognize when opportunities meant for me to pursue. I don’t win every battle, I don’t accomplish every goal, and I absolutely haven’t had the full list of my desires fulfilled. What I have had is many triumphs, rejuvenating moments, and renewed hope so that I can appreciate how far I’ve come, while being motivated to rise higher. I say, when measuring yourself, do both (figuratively). Measure your height from the ceiling to acknowledge how far you are, but do not forget to measure your height from the floor to appreciate how far you’ve come.

5. Upgrade your own Personal Wellness on your Priority List. This is so huge. Whether we are creatives, business owners, or simply alive – if we are not okay, the things we serve and contribute to may not be. Mental, Physical, Spiritual, Emotional and Psychological Wellness are a whole thing. We have to care for ourselves, practically. Not just your idealistic, hopeful, general nice thoughts to ourselves. I create a list (and update accordingly), of things that would be helpful for me. I enrolled in a Massage Therapy program that auto-deducted and credited a massage once a month for a year. I ask Alexa to play rain, ocean Waves, ambient frequencies, or bible verses/songs as I wind down for the day or take an afternoon nap. When I have trouble feeling like eating healthy, I create or purchase detoxifying cold-press juices, or plant-protein smoothies. I pray a lot. I find a space in nature and walk or sit, by water, hills, etc. (yes they exist here in Las Vegas) My list may look different than yours, but sameness isn’t the point,

In fact, that is the point, overcoming Imposter Syndrome is about shifting your perspective, not just for the area you struggle with most – but your entire perspective about you, your life and your place in this world. Do your internal work, the world is waiting.

Finally, My Quotes & Affirmations:

“You are It. Sometimes, you are sitting around waiting for someone to Do what you ARE.” – Brittany Soul

You are a solution to a million problems in the world, just as you are. – Brittany Soul

Some people are not who they are becoming yet, because You are not who you are becoming yet. – Brittany Soul

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
It’s always easier to say, I’m Brittany Soul and I do a lot of things. The more in depth version is:

I am a Las Vegas Native, mother of three, student of multiple schools presently, real estate agent, author, musical performer and writer.

My passion is healing through creative arts and my favorite topic is Love.
In my opinion, my music, spoken word, poetry and presentations nurture dialogue and exchanges that inspire healing and creativity.

I received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanities, October 2023. I’ve just received my fifteenth award and am nominated with a few additional organizations as of the fourth quarter of 2023. Two of my songs just passed the preliminary round of Grammy Consideration. My brand is now expanding to include workshops, seminars/webinars, speeches. We will be launching additional music, art and books soon.

I’m excited to contribute to some SuperBowl LVIII events 2024 and more exciting news ahead soon.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A Genuine Spirit: Having a genuine spirit minimizes unnecessary insecurity, confusion, doubt, because showing up as your authentic self is the best way to fulfil your own purpose.

Tenacity: I like to say yeah, curiosity may have killed the cat, but tenacity brings it back. Everytime. Have an inquisitive mind helps get me curious and thirsty for learning. Being tenacious doesn’t always mean you are constantly working, but it does mean you are consistently working toward growth. Even if you have moments of rest or breaks, get back to it!

Resilience: Absolutely no set back can compare to the breath you received and the blood flowing through your veins. In fact, think of your life this way, Like breathing, you inhale and receive, you exhale and release. Blood takes nutrients provided to disburse throughout your body, as well as, cleansing. The point is life is about give and take. We are most successful as alchemists, turning life events and circumstances & transforming them all to something great.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am presently interested in building a team to collaborate with to elevate my brands. I’m seeking a Videographer, Photographer, Assistant and PR/Agent.

I’m open to writing and features with artists, as well.
