We recently connected with Juliette P. Poirier and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Juliette P. with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic is probably due to my previous careers and also my observations. I’m French and I worked for many years in Paris. The work culture there is really different. Hours are strictly counted, vacations are paid, employment contracts for life, and so on. On the other hand, what’s important to me is to create opportunities suitable for everyone, regardless of their situation. I’ve witnessed too many times women unable to return to work because they had to take care of their babies. I want to make a difference, to show women that they can leave their homes and be mothers while still being women.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a producer of commercials and music videos, embodying the perfect fusion of fashion, cinema, and creativity. My diverse background has taken me from fashion in Paris to film sets in Hollywood. I have proven myself in production roles for renowned luxury brands, big music videos, and short narrative films. Growing up in the suburbs of Paris, with a Master’s in logistics and supply chain, I later worked around the world. I went from Europe to China, to finally arrive in Los Angeles. I am dedicated to be known for the diversity and inclusion that my set and products include.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
You have to be humble and accept to learn from the lowest rank of the job to be good at a higher position: When you start at the ground level, you gain a deep understanding of the foundations of your industry or profession. You learn the inner workings, the challenges, and the intricacies that may go unnoticed by those who jump straight into higher positions. By immersing yourself in these early experiences, you build a solid foundation. You appreciate the efforts and dedication required at every stage.
Understanding cultural differences: Understanding cultural differences is crucial for effective communication. It’s the key to breaking down barriers, whether they are linguistic, behavioral, or even psychological. It means appreciating the nuances of language, non-verbal cues, customs, and traditions, which can vary drastically from one culture to another. This linguistic and cultural competency enables genuine connections between people from different backgrounds.
Logistical skills are keys: Logistical skills are also indispensable for risk management. Every production faces unforeseen challenges, and a good producer is prepared to tackle them head-on. These skills allow for quick and effective problem-solving, from handling weather-related setbacks to finding alternative shooting locations when unexpected roadblocks arise.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Oh dear, who hasn’t contributed to my growth since I was born…
I cherish people, as every new person entering my life contributes to my personal development.
Starting with my childhood friends, who have become my pillars today, supporting me in every decision I make, even when we’re miles apart.
Then, my previous jobs outside of the industry taught me to think on my feet, face challenges, and manage stress.
In Los Angeles, my producer friends, who grew alongside me, reassured me that I was on the right path and with whom I could seamlessly collaborate on any project.
My partner in crime, a director with whom I’ve created four films, from whom I continue to learn.
And of course, my life partner, who introduced me to the industry.
