Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joey Farese. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joey, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
The hardest part of being self employed is doing everyday tasks even when no one is there to make you do it. I am fortunate enough to run a successful DJ business. It’s all I ever wanted to do growing up and i remind myself of that every day. To keep the dream alive, I have to work for it, and nobody but myself is going to make it happen!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve always wanted to play music for a living and I’ve found a way to do that through DJing. My goal is to make every event as fun as it can possibly be. I show up to parties and make them even more fun – how could you not love that? The most exciting part of my job is when I queue up a song that I know is going to be a hit, and I play it and everyone rushes to the dance floor!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important skills fora successful DJ in my industry are a deep understanding of every music genre, an ability to mix songs well, and a pride for professionalism. If you are missing any of these three, you’ll never make it as a DJ in the event industry.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Growing up my dad was a DJ and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. He paved the way for me to make it in the event industry. I learned a lot from him but I think it’s important that I grow beyond what he taught me and develop my own style and skills.
