We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brianna Collins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brianna below.
Hi Brianna, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
What I do for self care is wake up early enough to read a little, journal, meditate, drink tea, work out or just doing something in the state of my own being. I have to make sure i set aside this time because afterwards my days can get so busy. It’s so easy to lose yourself when you get caught up in constant busy days. So taking time out whether it’s an hour or more daily is important and doing self care activities when you first wake up is a great way to start the day in my opinion.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hello world, my name is Brianna. I am a Cleveland based Fashion Designer and Creator of Brijanay Brand, an accessible luxury brand that honors women’s equal share of the image of GOD. Since i started in 2019 i have launched 5 mini collections, showcased designs in local fashion shows, collaborated with SHEIN on a 6 piece collection, and partnered with a well developed wholesale company. My designs resonate with women who prefers to step out of their comfort zone, embrace their sexy, value their individuality, and wants to express their femininity through fashion. My plan is to ensure Brijanay Brand exist in a space of its own where i can continue to push the limits of fashion worldwide.
I am currently working on a new fall collection, new techniques to bring out my designs, and inserting more of my culture into my designs, especially for my future spring/ summer collections.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
- Trust the process and don’t compare what you’re doing with what other people are doing.
- Breaks are necessary for creatives and yes, creative blocks are normal. This is when breaks are necessary.
- Everyday learn something new or try something new. For example: marketing, drawing, photography, self care, languages, culture, etc.
My advice is to just start or just do. Most of the time starting out we over think a lot and feel that we need to have all of our ducks in a row and it needs to remain that way but that is far from the truth. As long as you just START and do the best you can daily you will flourish! We are the only ones who can hold us back.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
1. My grandmother is really the GOAT. Without her gifting me a sewing machine i probably wouldn’t be where i am today, owning my own brand and creating. She also sewed back in the day and helped me in the beginning stages with any sewing techniques she already had.
2. My partner also played a huge part in where i am today with his marketing, graphic design, and overall creative background. He pushed me in all areas i needed to be pushed in creatively, physically, and mentally. Consistently sending me videos to help with improvement and physically being there helping me improve in brand building!
3. My mom for being a huge support system.
4. Everyone who has supported my brand in any way has helped build my brand to where it is now and i can’t wait to witness what’s next.
