Meet Beth Conrey

We recently connected with Beth Conrey and have shared our conversation below.

Beth, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My parents, of course. They were both volunteers within the school system as well as their church. They also supported non-profits financially as soon as they were fiscally capable of doing so.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Bee Squared Apiaries is a female-owned local honey company. We have approximately 175 colonies located from Denver to Wellington. We produce varietal honeys, specialty (infused or barrel-aged honeys) as well as beautiful, long lasting, clean burning beeswax candles and luscious soaps. We offer 4 national award winning honeys with another “in the hunt” right now. Stay tuned!

Our products can be found at fine retailers along the Front Range and across Colorado. Available online at bethsbees.com as well.

Bee Squared is a Certified B corporation and is a member of 1% for the Planet. We donate at least 2% of our sales to environmental non-profits. My local favorite is an organization I co-founded with other like-minded folk, People and Pollinators Action Network (PPAN) https://www.peopleandpollinators.org.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Education–I have my Master in Business Administration and, while I’v never directly used it for a job, it has been a useful lens to view the business through.

Vision–Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of my business has resulted in a business that is not “all things to all people” but “the right thing for the right people”.

Product Development–Our products are unique in the marketplace. They are also very different from each other. It has contributed much to our success.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Some of our most successful products have been collaborations. Our first Good Food Award (GFA) winning infusion, the rose petal infused honey, was a collaboration with a client, Bailey Stenson with Happy Heart Farm CSA in Fort Collins. Our second, the Whiskey Barrel Aged honey, was the idea of my right hand man, Jamie Erickson. The fennel pollen honey is the brainchild of a man I worked with/for over 30 years ago, Bob Patrick. These are all collaborations that are “in house” meaning we know all of these people.

We also have folks that buy our product and make really tremendous products with it. From CBD and mushroom infused to honeys to award-winning meads and whiskeys to all natural gummies and protein bars–folks are using honey in super ingenious and delicious ways. We love the fact that people are appreciating the hard work and incredible diversity of honey varietals available!
