Meet Devin Williams

We were lucky to catch up with Devin Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Devin , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I developed my generosity from my grandparents. They were both born and raised in Jamaica they explain to me stories of how they grew up with 1-none resources. Examples like they had travel miles on foot for food, and building there own homes from the natural resources in their environment. My grandparents faced tough challenges but they always were generous to others by letting them stay at their homes and cooking for others even when they didn’t have much they always shared what they could. Knowing this about them and seeing how may resources I have in todays world, I have no choice to be gentle and generous as much as I can.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a multi disciplinary artist. Currently I am focusing on photography & creative vegan cooking. Photography has been a serious creative habit of mines for about 7 years now. When I think of an image I try to remember the colors in the image first, then I think about what that person is wearing, the environment, then lastly the mood. A-lot of other things comes to my head but these are the main ones that I am truly passionate about. I believe as photographer I am able to create and build my own world, along with capturing the exciting and honest moments in my culture & environment. When it comes to photography I am excited to how the the individuals feel when they are in front of the camera lens & what they do with the image after it has been produced or developed. By the end of the year I will be releasing my 5th personal magazine, Titled “Eyes Wont Lie” when I make these magazines I approach them like a school yearbook or a recap of a certain concept. This magazine is an inside on my recent favorite images that Ive taken, and some food recipe’s and healthy adds/ topics.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three Areas of knowledge that I like to focus on currently on my journey is MIND, BODY, AND SPRIT. I have been promoting this topic for about 3 years, with photo adds & making shirts with my logo and he simple mind, body, sprit tex to set a reminder to others to pay attention to these subjects. I believe developing a high positive energy for growing within self for our mind, body and sprit brings only success for our existence in this world. Focusing on growing your mind will bring you peace, clarity and wisdom. You will notice yourself reading more and mediating, along with more positive thoughts because a growth mindset will develop over time. When it comes to your body everyone knows, you are what you eat along with actions and activities this creates how your body look and feels. Your sprit is how you connect with God or a higher power, or simply connecting with nature and being present at all times. Keep these big 3 areas of knowledge in mind during your creative process and in tough times. These are simple techniques that will help you on your journey because it will allow you to only be your true self. its more skills and qualities but these are my favorites right now.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When feeling overwhelmed, I try to eat a good meal or listen to one of my favorite songs on repeat to get myself in a familiar rhythm to accomplish the task at hand. My only advice when feeling overwhelmed is to know that “proper planing prevents a piss poor performance” & it’s never too late to make a plan.
