Meet Jessica Phillips

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Phillips a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Optimism is to have a positive mindset; to trust and believe in a successful outcome. For me, that comes from God as well as my upbringing. My grandparents made sure to always work hard and give their best; if you don’t do that how can you conquer the positive outcome that you want? By working hard and then adding faith that God will see it to fruition – that’s a mighty powerful thing. I trust that God will bring my hopes and prayers to life and by working hard towards my hopes and prayers its activated and everything falls in place. And of course, once you see everything falling in place it only makes you want to continue the process and you grow stronger with being optimistic and your confidence.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been taking pictures for a long time, next year in 2024 will be 10 years in business! I am always excited to capture memories for people, regardless of the occasion. I feel people should have something to be able to look back on a special moment. That is something that I am grateful for, my grandpa always took pictures regardless what we were doing; and many years later I can look back on those memories.

That’s why I love capturing moments at events and weddings as well as family and senior sessions! Don’t get me wrong I love ALL sessions – I take many different types of sessions. But those are my absolute favorites. Something I am looking to add is videography; I feel like its long overdue. So keep a look out for videography packages coming soon.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ambition, knowledge, and patience are three things I think will be helpful on this journey. Ambition will keep you motivated and dedicated, it’s like the battery to the whole journey. Sometimes, you may feel tired or your energy get low but just recharge and keep going. Knowledge in the business is extremely helpful and that’s knowledge on the business, taxes, business structure and etc. Getting as much information at the beginning can help in the long run so you don’t come across any hiccups that could’ve been essential avoided. And patience is HUGE! Business is not going to come as soon as you open your doors and family and friends will support as well. But once family and friends are not the only ones you want to support your business. You have to put in work to get your name out and market and that takes time like it does with anything you want to successful.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always open to collaborate with people whether its other photographers or even models. I feel with collaborations you can also learn new things. Collaborating with models help me jump more out of the box with sessions and see if it’s something I want to offer and what not. The only thing I ask is that everyone be open minded; photographers and models are creatives/artists – which means we all have our own vision. But to collaborate means to bring creative minds together and elaborate on whatever the vision may be. I can always be reached via phone, email, or even message (dm) for talks about collaborations.
