We were lucky to catch up with Alena Kozhevnikova recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alena, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by realizing my passion for music and DJing. After achieving my own dreams in the DJ career, I decided to create a DJ Academy to share my knowledge and help like-minded individuals achieve their goals more efficiently, offering them a shortcut to their DJ careers.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the founder of Miami DJ Academy, and I bring with me 14 years of DJing experience. My commitment to sharing my expertise is unwavering.
With over 9 years of DJing experience in the United States and an impressive 14-year journey of spreading musical joy worldwide, I stand as a beacon in the industry. As the sole woman-owned DJ school in Miami, I am breaking barriers and paving the way for aspiring DJs from all backgrounds.
Miami DJ Academy offers transformative DJ lessons like no other. In just 10 hours, we guarantee to turn your music passion into a tangible skill. Our dedication to your success goes beyond instruction; we are here to nurture your talent and help you shine.
But our support doesn’t stop there. I understand that hands-on experience is vital for every DJ’s journey. That’s why, after completing your 10-hour DJ course, we organize a live DJ performance for you at one of Miami’s most popular venues. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I can advice three things: Resilience: In any journey, you’re likely to face challenges, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt. Resilience is crucial in overcoming these obstacles. My advice for those early in their journey is to develop resilience by maintaining a positive mindset, staying adaptable, and viewing failures as opportunities for growth.
Continuous Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and to stay relevant and successful, one must embrace lifelong learning. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, staying updated on industry trends, or expanding your knowledge, the ability to learn and adapt is invaluable. Early in your journey, make learning a priority by seeking out courses, mentors, and resources that can help you grow.
Networking and Relationship Building: Building a strong professional network and fostering meaningful relationships can open doors and provide support throughout your journey. My advice is to be proactive in networking, attend industry events, connect with like-minded individuals, and maintain genuine relationships. Helping others and being helped in return is often how opportunities are created.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I believe my grandmother played a pivotal role in shaping my identity. Her remarkable intelligence and unwavering support for my often unconventional decisions left an indelible mark on me. From her, I absorbed numerous life lessons.
Her exceptional intellect was complemented by an impressive 50-year career with NASA, where she dedicated herself to studying the impact of light, noise, and temperature on the human body within the confines of a space rocket. Her work exemplified her profound wisdom and expertise.
The wisdom I gleaned from her and the support she provided have been instrumental in defining who I am today. Her extensive experience and deep insights continue to influence my life, and her legacy lives on in the lessons I’ve learned and the person I’ve become.
