Meet Jen Robin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jen Robin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jen, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
I won’t sugarcoat it — juggling multiple businesses over the years definitely pushes me to my limits. However, with experience, I’ve learned to recognize the warning signs of burnout. The moment I sense it creeping in, I prioritize stepping back a bit. It’s essential to carve out time for self-care and to delegate where possible. Last year, I took a month-long sabbatical, and it was a game-changer. I returned with renewed vigor and a clearer perspective. I constantly am reminding myself to never underestimate the power of a break, and don’t hesitate to ask for support.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Organizing has been a thread through the fabric of my life even before it became my profession. Officially launching Life in Jeneral in 2014 was like turning a heartfelt hobby into a living dream. There’s something incredibly rewarding about bringing order and serenity into someone’s personal space. It’s not just about the immediate aesthetic improvement; it’s about fundamentally enhancing the quality of life for my clients. Witnessing the profound impact organization had within my own circle, I was inspired to scale this change, to touch as many lives as possible.

What truly excites me about this work is the transformation. It’s beyond the physical; it’s the emotional and mental liberation that comes from an organized space. And it doesn’t stop there. LIJ Spaces was born from the same passion but adds another dimension—custom cabinetry design. It’s where the organizing acumen from Life in Jeneral meets bespoke storage solutions, tailor-made for each unique client.

Our approach is collaborative and evolutionary. We create storage solutions that not only fit your current lifestyle but are also adaptable for the future. It’s not just about crafting a space that works for you now; it’s about anticipating the growth and changes life will bring. And because we handle everything in-house, we can ensure a flawless transition from design to implementation.

The mission of both Life in Jeneral and LIJ Spaces is to go beyond the perfect fold—it’s to instill a sense of enduring tranquility that comes from an organized environment. That’s the bliss I aim for every client to discover and cherish.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three pillars that have truly shaped my path would be passion, confidence, and effective communication.

Passion has been the fuel for my endeavors. It’s the constant, unwavering force that propels me forward, even during challenging times. To those starting out, my advice is to find what genuinely excites you, what keeps you curious, and lean into it wholeheartedly. Passion can’t be manufactured; when it’s authentic, it’s palpable to everyone around you and can open doors you never knew existed.

Confidence has been crucial—not just in myself, but also in my vision. There were countless times when this confidence turned skepticism into support. It’s something that grows with each small victory and learning experience. For those early in their journey, remember that confidence is a muscle. Exercise it. Start by setting and achieving small goals, allowing your confidence to build organically. And don’t be deterred by setbacks; view them as stepping stones.

Effective communication has been the bridge connecting my ideas with the world. It’s one thing to have a vision, but articulating it clearly and compellingly is what brings it to life. Improving communication is a lifelong process, so my advice is to practice actively. Listen intently, speak purposefully, and remember that communication is as much about conveying your thoughts as it is about understanding others’.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past year, my biggest growth area has been learning to trust the process. This growth stemmed from recognizing that not every step will be clear or certain. There were moments when the outcomes I worked toward didn’t turn out as expected. Yet, each of those moments taught me something valuable.

I’ve also found that this trust allows for more creativity and innovation. When you’re not rigidly fixed on a specific outcome, you open yourself up to new ideas and solutions that you may not have otherwise considered. You learn to adapt and pivot.

To others in their professional journeys, I would say that trusting the process is about finding peace within the chaos. It’s about believing in your abilities and in the work you’ve put forth, even when the next steps seem shrouded in fog.
