We recently connected with Tokyo Syrup and have shared our conversation below.
Tokyo, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I’m a 21 years old forever in my mind when I’m in the mode of the creativity. I naturally had an antenna on everything when I was at that age, so I try to keep myself young in my mind! Lol Have fun on fashion, nail art ideas and cherish what I love like what I love to wear, what I love to listen and see like every little thing I love. I want to inspire others to be my true self one day.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a freelance nail artist based in Los Angeles. I named my artist name “Tokyo Syrup “ from where I grow up and got inspired, also Gel is like a Syrup / Honey .
My studio is located in Eaglerock by so many cute little shops and coffee shops, cafes around.
I specialize in Nail Art so most of my clients request me detail art.
I love fun 3D art, funky and weird-shaped design lol, something Kawaii, so I get happy when clients ask me those things!
I have “ Omakase” nail art session on my service menu which I do freestyle out of clients’ inspiration. They usually brings me inspiration of some art piece, dress & makeup that they wear at wedding or special events, location of the travel, then I do freestyle on their nails. Usually clients book this service for special occasions so I feel appreciated for that opportunity every time and feel so happy when I see big smile after the service. They send me the pics of the event with nails and that’s a very special thing for me too.
Also, I focus on Natural nails health.
I have passion to helps grow natural healthy nails while you enjoy gel nails. Most of the long nails on my IG post is their natural nails ( not a extensions ).
I’ve tried so many products and using the products what I tested and trust. They are non-toxic, has strength and long lasting.
I’m planning to do something new this year so follow me on IG and stay tuned!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
•Quality of basic skills like preparation. I always touch my clients’ nails like I’m touching my nails or
•Nail Art skill & quality . This one, you have to keep practicing because nail trends are so fast, and everyone finds something new from SNS lol . I take education sometimes as well. Clients love to try new things all the time 🙂
• Knowledge of products! I tested many products especially base gel that touches natural nails. I always choose Nontoxic products and try on myself for a while before I start using on my clients. I focus on glowing healthy natural nails so using safe products are very important for me. I’m so happy every time I see the progress of my clients’ nails glowing healthier and stronger in better shape !!!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Who loves Fashion / art / to being unique and fun and who looking for a quality. I love to corroborate ideas with clients as well. So anyone who has some cool idea in nail arts are welcome !!
