Meet Javier McIntosh

We were lucky to catch up with Javier McIntosh recently and have shared our conversation below.

Javier, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience in the film industry often comes from a deep passion for storytelling, a strong vision for your projects, and the ability to adapt to challenges and setbacks. It also helps to have a supportive team and a network of industry professionals who share your passion and can offer guidance and encouragement. Additionally, personal determination and a willingness to learn and grow are key factors in building resilience in the competitive world of filmmaking.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In the world of filmmaking, what I find most exciting and special is the power of storytelling. Film is a medium that can touch people’s hearts, provoke thought, and bring about positive change. It’s the ability to take an idea or a concept and transform it into a visual and emotional experience that makes the film industry so captivating.

As for my brand and work, I’m dedicated to creating meaningful and impactful films that not only entertain but also resonate with audiences on a deeper level. We constantly strive for innovation and creativity in our projects, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and technology. Our recent focus has been on expanding into new genres and exploring emerging formats, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of the ever-evolving film industry.

Additionally, we have some exciting events and new project launches on the horizon. Stay tuned for our upcoming film premiere, which promises to be a unique cinematic experience. We’re also working on expanding our international reach, forging collaborations with talented artists and creators from around the world. I look forward to sharing these new developments with our audience and continuing to push the boundaries of cinematic storytelling.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back at my journey in the film industry, I believe three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge have been particularly impactful:

1. **Creativity:** The ability to think outside the box, generate unique ideas, and tell compelling stories is paramount. To develop this skill, immerse yourself in various forms of art, read widely, and draw inspiration from diverse sources. Practice brainstorming and honing your creative process regularly.

2. **Resilience:** The film industry can be challenging, and setbacks are common. Resilience, or the ability to bounce back from failures and rejection, is crucial. To build this quality, embrace failures as opportunities for growth, surround yourself with a supportive network, and keep your passion for filmmaking alive, no matter the obstacles.

3. **Industry Knowledge:** Understanding the technical and business aspects of filmmaking is vital. Learn about cinematography, editing, sound design, financing, distribution, and marketing. Keep up with industry trends and network with professionals. Continuous learning and staying updated are key.

For those early in their journey, my advice is:

– **Never stop learning:** The film industry is ever-evolving. Stay curious, take courses, attend workshops, and read industry publications. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be.

– **Build a strong network:** Connect with fellow filmmakers, producers, and mentors. They can provide guidance, support, and opportunities. Attend film festivals and industry events to expand your contacts.

– **Embrace failure:** Don’t be discouraged by rejection or setbacks. They are part of the process. Learn from them, adapt, and keep moving forward. Your determination will be a major asset.

– **Stay true to your vision:** Don’t compromise your creative integrity. While collaboration is essential, remember your unique voice and vision. This authenticity can set you apart in a competitive industry.

– **Be adaptable:** The industry is dynamic. Be open to change and willing to explore new ideas and technologies. Adaptability can lead to innovative breakthroughs.

Remember, every filmmaker’s journey is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all path to success. What matters most is your dedication, passion, and willingness to learn and grow throughout your career.
