We were lucky to catch up with Brian Loeffler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
There was a time where I was successful at everything I did no matter what it was, and I never experienced failure. Then I went to the next level with high aspirations, and I found there were a number of people who are smarter and more talented than me, and I was getting left behind – an afterthought.
I took a step back, partnered with a few mentors, developed a plan to move forward, and then I executed that plan. It took time, but I was realizing greater success than I ever imagined. The beauty is my plan is very flexible for both my personal life and professional life. The best part? Those same people who were more talented than me are now reaching out to me asking for help, and of course, I was more than happy to help.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I began working for an investment consulting firm out of Boston, MA, and the firm allowed me to stay in Phoenix, AZ. The firm also allowed me to continue with my photography business as long it did not interfere with work. I could not believe it! A firm that allows someone to have a life outside of work and also allow them to pursue their hobbies as a business.
I have been able to build my photography business especially with my landscape and night sky photography. My following has grown across 20 countries. My recent trip to Norway to photograph the Northern Lights has also been met with great excitement as well, and I am looking forward to sharing my photos with you in this interview.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first part is you must develop a plan on anything you want to pursue. Create milestones to make sure you are on track of reaching the goals set in the plan. If you fail to plan then you are planning to fail. It is just that simple.
Once you know your plan, understand the regulatory aspects of the business. You will not have a business to run if you do not take care of the regulatory side of it. That is a universal truth in today’s business world. So understand the regulatory aspects, create a schedule on when the proper documents need to be filed, and stay on top of the latest developments.
Finally, you must be willing to constantly learn and adapt to the latest developments especially in Technology. For me, the technology in the photography world has drastically changed from when I began two years ago, and I find myself constantly learning about new features and techniques. Without learning these techniques, I could easily find myself falling behind my contemporaries.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am very open to working with other photographers especially those who are able to teach what they know, and likewise, receive my knowledge on various topics.
I have done this in the past, and the partnerships that have been created have been outstanding and long-lasting. Absolutely worth it!
If anyone wishes to collaborate with me, feel free to reach me at [email protected]. I am able to meet in person as well as online.
