Meet Josh Zammit

We were lucky to catch up with Josh Zammit recently and have shared our conversation below.

Josh, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Well, I’m not too quick to label myself as such, considering I still carry quite a few painful scars, some pretty raw. What does keep me going is my passion for the work and the necessity of expression. Oddly enough, those trials tend to inspire my creativity. So, maybe that counts as resilience, or perhaps it’s just a touch of embracing the pain. Adversity, though—it’s like a crash course in understanding humanity. It does drive me as an artist, but in moderation, of course.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I hail from Australia but have called Los Angeles home for the past six years. I work in post-production as a day job while also dedicating myself to writing, directing, and creating art whenever possible. I’m currently working on my new feature film Seeder in which I’m writer/director, editor and Post-Producer. In filmmaking, I’m drawn to horror and science fiction, delving into existential themes and absurdism. In my artistic pursuits, I lean toward a looser, less refined approach akin to abstract expressionism—something primal and therapeutic that brings immense joy and relief. Generally, I tend to be reserved and find it challenging to discuss myself or my work. Can we wrap this up? HAR HAR.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Trusting your intuition, fostering curiosity, and nurturing a strong sense of self. These, I believe, are pivotal for creative individuals to cultivate.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Everyone’s gonna be different, but I usually resort to grabbing a scrap of paper and scratching some strange dread-soaked face onto it, usually my own—a method that feels like an exorcism of stress, containing those overwhelming emotions on paper. Engaging in Transcendental meditation has significantly helped me with stress relief, although at times, simply seeking solitude proves enough to alleviate the burden.
