Meet Noel Ross

We were lucky to catch up with Noel Ross recently and have shared our conversation below.

Noel, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Enduring years of skepticism, rejection, and criticism from industry figures I aspired to be around and gain knowledge from is similar to the narrative depicted in the film “Whiplash,” specifically the Charlie Parker story as it was explained in the bar scene. Embracing the pain and persistently striving for one’s passion is everything. If the journey were effortless, everyone in Los Angeles would be doing it, let alone actually be what they say they are.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I founded Robot Buffalo Productions, based in Los Angeles, focused on video production services for Films, Music Videos, and content creation for brands and creatives. Although it has been a long a journey, it has barely started. There is always room to grow and much to learn and explore. I enjoy the learning curve of every obstacle in the end and improving my creative direction and technique from pre to post production. Although arduous, the impact and influence of the final product is what brings me the most joy and motivation.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In the dynamic field of video production, being adaptable has been crucial. Whether it’s embracing new technologies, adjusting to changing client preferences, or navigating unexpected challenges on set, the ability to adapt has allowed me to stay innovative and resilient. A solid foundation in technical skills has been fundamental. From mastering editing software to understanding the intricacies of camera equipment, rigging and lighting setups, technical proficiency has empowered me to bring my creative vision to life effectively.

Video production is inherently collaborative. Networking and effective communication with team members, clients, and other stakeholders is key. The ability to articulate ideas, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate seamlessly has not only enhanced the quality of the final product but has also strengthened professional relationships.

Basically stay updated and continuously work on your craft, network, and be cool.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m constantly seeking collaborators who share the passion and determination to create amazing projects. I am eager to connect with additional online marketing experts and art directors for collaborative research and content creation, aiming to enhance brand outreach and success. Also, generally, Individuals who don’t let obstacles deter them but instead focus on finding solutions. Building connections and friendships with like-minded, solution-oriented people is something I genuinely look forward to. Navigating a space filled with masked individuals can be challenging, especially in such an oversaturated environment like Los Angeles.
