Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hypnotic . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Hypnotic , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
In order to be effective and successful you need to use everything at your advantage. Everyone has a different way of doing things and, I feel that’s the way to go. In this journey you have to use your size, tone, style, vibe and faith. You definitely need to believe in yourself especially if you’re the only you, in the room.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Rafael but, in the music world I’m known as Hypnotic. My life begins in Deep South Texas. You can say my love for music is as great as the size of Texas. I’ve loved music both in English and Spanish for as long as I can remember. I began writing songs just for myself at the age of eight. I learned to grab a microphone from watching my grandparents sing their hearts out at family gatherings. They made my love for music grown even greater. My family, especially, my grandfather always encouraged me to pursue my dream. Currently I work as a heavy machine operator but, on my free time I focus on continuing my artistic career. This includes constant attention to new beats, rhythms, notes and stories. All of these key factors come together to create new vibing music. As of recently I’ve joined in collaboration with other local artists to help expand our names. One of the paths has included joining forces with local artists “Lil l”. It’s been such an exciting and creative experience making music with someone who is on the same path as mine. We have proudly recorded and released eleven songs. Most recent songs are on my new album “Heart on my sleeve”, go check it out.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would definitely tell someone who is following the music path to keep up with vocal exercises. Keep your sound fresh, keep your notes clear, and keep your voice pure. Another thing would be to find your range. Finding your range is very important because, if you force anything that is going to cause damage to your vocal cords you may damage them permanently, and we wouldn’t want that. Lastly, to keep everything in sync pick up an instrument, it’ll help you with a lot of things voice related and, you’re learning new skills.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Both of my parents are amazing people. Without them I wouldn’t be able to continue my music journey because, they keep me going. They hear my music one to many times during the writing process. They’ll sit up and listen to a new song whether it be eight in the afternoon or two in the morning. They give me ideas and, thought on how to improve it or what to change out. So, you can say the most impactful thing my parents have done for me is give me their time regardless the time of day.
