Meet Sonia Iris Lozada

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sonia Iris Lozada. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sonia Iris below.

Sonia Iris, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Getting rid of the constant mind chatter that distracts us from our creative pursuits is the key to unlocking creativity. Without the constant thinking about everyday affairs like our to-do list or appointments, we can focus more on our creative tasks. When I’m blanking on new story lines for writing or need to remember lines for a script, I take a few minutes out of my day for meditation. Taking five minutes out of your day to center yourself and clear your mind has been incredibly helpful in boosting my creativity.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been blessed with creativity since childhood. Whenever I had people over, I’d put on a show with singing and dancing. Contrary to popular belief, I actually feel more creative now than ever before. My series of books, Inspire Me, already has three volumes and I’m working on the fourth one in the series titled Awakening Dreams. Additionally, I’m writing some short stories exploring sci-fi and surrealism.

Acting has always been an intense passion of mine. Whenever I book a job, it’s as if a wave of jubilation washes over me. Although you can’t depend on acting for your livelihood, it still gives you back a sense of power– you give it your all during an audition or call back, and then it’s out of your control. You should just bask in the glory that comes with the opportunity to perform.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
CURIOSITY When you have true curiosity, you’re interested in what you do, the people you meet and pursue knowledge to move forward in your endeavors.

FOLLOW-UP
Dreams need to be followed and followed-up. No one knows you exist unless there is follow-up. Applying for a job, meeting a person you’d like to know better, investing your time and energy in making these dreams a reality.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Self-worth has been showing up in my podcast and acting. Who are you? Who do you want to be? Would the future you do what you’re doing now? Being able to see yourself in your dream or ideal situation. Are you ready? It’s good to step outside your comfort zone because that is the only way you will move closer to a dream.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Owning an independent business can be difficult. You’re in charge of everything, from web design to social media to financing and follow-up.

As a poet/writer, actor, and podcaster, financial considerations are a key part of my daily routine. If money were no object, I could hire professionals to help me with the many tedious tasks involved in running a business.

My strategy is to plan out each and every day, week, and month. For instance, when I know I have four podcast episodes to record that month, I allot one day for interviews and another for editing and creating social media content.

When it comes to writing, I try to set aside at an hour a couple times a week—even if that just means making an outline. That way, I’m still working towards my goal.

Above all else, it’s important to keep your objective in sight at all times. What can you do on a daily, weekly or monthly basis that helps you reach that goal?
