We recently connected with Diana Acevedo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I’ve always had this bold and impulsive drive about me. I found it interesting however, whether it was classmates, friends, coworkers, or other social groups, that not everyone had that. This puzzled me because I thought it was normal for everyone but was surprised to find out now that I’m older, everyone struggles with taking risk, even when it comes to just being themselves. I totally understand, as taking the plunge honestly was quite scary for me at first, as I was met with a lot of uncertainty, and struggling with low self esteem and anxiety before I decided to really go into Acting. Deep down though, I knew it’s what I wanted to do and what I enjoyed so I thought why not take it to the next level?! I finally made the plunge, and I’ve took off since then (2018 to be exact) with a few pit stops here and there and now but I will continue to take risk because I know I’ve been rewarded for my efforts before. I owe it to my acting coach for helping reframe this mindset too, John Rudy who once said Fear has an acronym for ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’. Just go for it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve been an Actor for the past 7 years now and still continuing down that road. Lately though, I’ve taken the time to find more inspiration that helped me revisit & evolve my skills in other creative areas like songwriting and photography. Currently I’m working on a grungy melancholic musical project and a digital visual art series in which I use my body as the instrumental subject. As I’ve gotten more into practicing yoga, its granted me a lot more flexibility to which I can now contort my body in ways that can create shapes and illusions in this project. The intent is to evoke unexplored emotions through a series of surreal images. I’m hoping to get these images up in a gallery or even display them in local pop-ups and coffee shops in the near future. This series goes in hand with a series of raw self-portraits I also really enjoy taking in an effort to ‘Model Through Art’ as I work my way into the modeling industry and promote body positivity. Yep, I intend to do it all. Updates will be posted on my IG page @darlin9diana and under hashtag #modelingthroughart.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Risk-taking, Practice, and Excitement. I’m always looking for new ways to refresh my passion and joy for the art I make and participate in. When inspiration hits, it gives me a whole new reason to be excited about what to create next. Excitement is the motivator. I would say find what excites you about what you do.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always on the lookout for individuals looking to partner and collaborate with me in all my creative areas. They can find me on my primary platform, Instagram: @darlin9diana. I respond to DMs.
