We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sophia J. Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sophia J. below.
Sophia J. , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
So, I got my confidence and self-esteem from cooking up a storm since I was 3! Started SJ Savory Kitchen, got thumbs up from cool chefs and celebs like Rachel Ray and Octavia Spencer – total pinch-me moment! Helping out in the community, winning awards, and having a blast on TV shows, podcasts, and magazines make me feel on top of the world! Cooking rules!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Sophia “SJ” Thomas, the 14-year-old Teen Chef, Entrepreneur, and Humanitarian. I run SJ Savory Kitchen, dishing out cool recipes and kitchen tips. What’s super exciting? Also, I’ve got SJ Cookware for safe kitchen fun.
But wait, there’s more! I’m all about giving back – helping military Veterans, supporting No Kid Hungry, and raising money for Stand Up for Kids. Awards? Heck yeah! “Girl of Merit” and a shoutout from Senator Lucy McBath. Oh, and catch me on Fox5 and ABC – I’m basically cooking up a storm everywhere!
And guess what? I’m not stopping! Stay tuned for cool events, launches, and maybe some surprises.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three things that totally rocked my journey were:
1. Passion for what I do: Loving cooking and helping others made everything fun. Find what you’re crazy about, and it won’t feel like work!
2. Fearless mindset: Don’t be scared to try new things. COVID hit, I saw a challenge, and bam, SJ Savory Kitchen happened. Embrace change, and magic follows!
3. Community vibes: Giving back is cool! Teaming up with awesome causes and making a difference feels amazing.
Advice? Be true to yourself, find your passion, don’t fear change, and spread good vibes. Oh, and don’t forget to have a blast along the way!
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents, who are former U.S. Army Captains, did for me was always encouraging and supporting my passions. From my love for cooking at a young age to starting my own ventures, they were there, cheering me on every step. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to chase my dreams and make a difference.
