Meet Brittany Donovan

We recently connected with Brittany Donovan and have shared our conversation below.

Brittany, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
One word… Rest! Being overstretched is the biggest killer of creativity and motivation. Every year I look ahead at the calendar and make a plan to block off certain weekends in each quarter. Creating this space allows me to disconnect, enjoy things that are life-giving, take intentional time to reflect, wait on the Lord for something new to dream about and just simply start with whatever comes to mind. It doesn’t have to look perfect, but this open space lets my mind wonder and execute new beauty that can unfold.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Happy to! I am the founder and Editor in Chief at Behold & Flourish — I desire to see every person championed and their uniqueness celebrated. I was born and raised in Houston, Tx and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Communications. With a non-profit and event planning background, I quickly discovered how important the art of gathering is and it prompted my desire to find a medium where women can connect over all things that encapsulated womanhood.

In a large city where it can be challenging to meet new girlfriends, Behold & Flourish was started in 2019 as a community event where women from all different seasons of life had a place to connect, rest, and grow from their shared experiences.

Over the passing years and as the seasons changed, the Lord determined the organization’s next steps and then this lifestyle brand was launched in hopes of encouraging women to Behold who God is and Flourish in whatever season that is set before them. Our team believes that creativity arises from our potential to learn from different experiences. Throughout all the joys and challenges that life may bring, community is where we learn, gain perspective from others, and grow.

Everything we do at Behold & Flourish is in pursuit of inspiring women to see God in every area of their life. We pray that as each person reads each entry on our site or joins us at a community event, they would see God in all the beauty presented before them and find inspiration to flourish in the season they are living in.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My first thought to this question was…only three?!

The first few qualities that came to mind were resilience, vision and team culture.

At the heart of being resilient is the knowledge that mistakes are learning opportunities. Things can easily go wrong or become unpredictable when starting a business. If you get disheartened or unmotivated every time there is a setback, you are only getting in the way of your greatest potential. Be encouraged, for every problem there is a solution. Have the confidence that no one is better at your calling than you!

Having a clear idea of what you are working towards is vital. The more you are invested in what you are doing and the clearer your vision is, the easier it will be to plan for the future as you align your goals and aspirations together. Having a vision for what you do should always be at the forefront of your mind when coming up with new ideas for your business. This allows you to truly ask yourself if it will compliment the big picture and keep good boundaries in place so you don’t steer off track.

Creating a set of attitudes, values, goals and practices is the best way to characterize your organization. Team culture is the biggest attribute your business can have in order to be set apart while taking your company to the next level – you can’t do what you do alone! We are made to accomplish goals with the collaboration of other extraordinary people.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We are always looking to collaborate and give others a platform to share about their experience! Our Behold & Flourish Magazine captures the essence of being a woman in our medium of written articles that includes the topics of style & beauty, vocation, spirituality, creativity, relationships and wellness. It is our desire to create lifestyle inspiration for the modern day woman, from modern day women in pursuit of inspiring others to see God in every area of their life.
