Meet Jacquiline Cox

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacquiline Cox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquiline, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is a common experience that many people face, regardless of their accomplishments. Overcoming imposter syndrome can be a personal journey, but there are some strategies that can help. In my case, I overcame imposter syndrome by recognizing my achievements and acknowledging my own worth. Graduating from Dunbar Vocational Career Academy, attending Columbia College Chicago, and graduating the University of Arizona Global Campus with honors, as well as being a successful entrepreneur, life coach, and published author, are all significant accomplishments. Additionally, my experiences as a thyroid cancer survivor, lupus warrior, and advocate for troubled youth shows my overall strength and resilience that God has given me. By embracing my journey and sharing my story through books, motivational speaking, and charitable donations, I have found confidence and purpose. It’s important to remember that overcoming imposter syndrome is an ongoing process, but celebrating personal achievements and embracing one’s unique journey can be powerful tools along the way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As far as resilience, there are various challenges I have faced and still face today such as overcoming thyroid cancer, being a lupus warrior, and navigating the foster care system. My ability to bounce back from these difficulties demonstrates resilience. This quality has likely been crucial in overcoming obstacles and pushing through tough times.

Advice: For those early in their journey, developing resilience can be done by embracing a growth mindset. View challenges as opportunities for growth and learning rather than setbacks. Surround yourself with a supportive network of people who can provide encouragement and guidance. Additionally, practicing self-care and maintaining a healthy work-life balance can help build resilience.

2. Entrepreneurship: With three successful businesses, I showcase my entrepreneurial spirit. This skill has allowed me to help create opportunities for myself and my family and pursue my passions. Being an entrepreneur often requires taking risks, being resourceful, and having a strong work ethic.

Advice: For those who want to develop or improve their entrepreneurial skills, it’s important to start by identifying your passions and interests. Research and learn about the market you want to enter. Seek out mentors or join entrepreneurial communities where you can learn from experienced individuals. Take calculated risks and embrace failure as a learning experience. Continuously adapt and innovate to stay ahead in your field.

3. Advocacy: My dedication to being an advocate for troubled youth in the foster care system is something I am very passionate about. This shows commitment to making a positive impact and using my voice to bring about change. Advocacy requires empathy, communication skills, and the ability to understand complex issues.

Advice: To develop advocacy skills, start by identifying causes or issues that you are passionate about. Educate yourself on the topic and stay informed about current events and developments. Build relationships with like-minded individuals or organizations that share your values. Practice active listening and effective communication to effectively convey your message. Utilize social media and other platforms to raise awareness and engage with others.

Overall, the advice for those early in their journey is to embrace challenges, pursue their passions, and use their voice to make a positive impact. By developing resilience, entrepreneurial skills, and advocacy skills, individuals can navigate their journey more effectively and contribute meaningfully to their chosen field or cause.
