Meet Krissy & Wes Reynolds

We were lucky to catch up with Krissy & Wes Reynolds recently and have shared our conversation below.

Krissy & Wes, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Both of us began working at the beginning of our teenage years. We are both children of hard working parents. Our background is the restaurant industry so we are used to long dedicated hours matched with integrity, goal setting & a face pace.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We make handmade skin-loving soaps! We started in 2020 as a byproduct of wanting to leave our corporate jobs. We knew we wanted to own our own business & we were both handmade soap nerds. We would always buy it whenever he found it at national parks or little gift shops when hiking.

There was a need for a soap shop in our valley & passion just kind of met purpose in a serendipitous way. In addition to soap, over the years we have added whipped sugar scrubs, beard oils, lotions, shower oils & more. Every item is still handmade with love.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Our skill sets were definitely carved by working in big business but they have been surprisingly helpful in starting & successfully running a small business. Goal setting, both short & long term, has been key. We like to have a plan & execute as close to perfect as we can each year. Consistency is also key. Product quality & customer service always being top notch is a standard for us in everything we do. Lastly, being able to sit with the ebb & flow of business. While the good times are wonderful, you have to be able to be shoulder to shoulder with the discomfort of a slow week or month. The resiliency is a must have for entrepreneurship.

As far as growing those, that’s really a get out & do it type need. Choose being scared, taking some calculated risks & never stop learning.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I don’t think we could easily narrow it down to one person but we can be concise! Our mentor is our former franchisee at Domino’s, who coached us both for almost two decades. We also rely on & are insanely grateful for our small business advisor through our local small business development center. This is a fabulous resource that is found in most localities so take advantage! Lastly, our tribe of our crafters & small biz owners. We are blessed to have a great group of friends with a sharing atmosphere so we can all collectively gain info based off each other’s strengths.
