I attribute my strong work ethic to the values instilled in me by my father, who was an immigrant. Witnessing his journey and the sacrifices he made to provide our family with opportunities has had a profound impact on my approach to work. From an early age, he emphasized the importance of hard work as a means to achieve success. His work ethic and determination, coupled with the challenges he overcame, serve as a constant source of inspiration for me. I carry these principles into my professional life, understanding that diligence and persistence are key factors in achieving one’s goals. My father’s immigrant experience has shaped my belief that a strong work ethic is not just about putting in hours, but about seizing opportunities and making the most of them to create a better future.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful:
Resilience:
The ability to bounce back from setbacks and navigate challenges has been crucial. There were inevitably times when things didn’t go as planned, but resilience allowed me to stay focused on my goals and learn from adversity. My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Develop a mindset that sees setbacks not as failures, but as valuable lessons that contribute to your overall progress.
Adaptability:
The world is constantly evolving, and being able to adapt to change is essential. Whether it’s shifts in technology, industry trends, or unexpected circumstances like Covid, adaptability allows for continued growth and relevance. Early in their journey, individuals should actively seek to broaden their skill set and stay informed about developments in their field. Embrace a mindset of continuous learning, as it positions you to navigate changes with confidence and agility.
Effective Communication:
Clear and concise communication has been a cornerstone of my journey. Whether collaborating with colleagues, presenting ideas, or interacting with clients, effective communication fosters understanding and collaboration. Early in their journey, individuals should focus on honing their communication skills—both verbal and written. Seek feedback, practice articulating ideas, and work on tailoring your message to different audiences. Strong communicators often find it easier to build meaningful relationships and convey their value proposition.
My advice to those early in their journey is to approach challenges with resilience, cultivate adaptability as a core skill, and prioritize effective communication. Remember that growth often comes from navigating the unknown and embracing the learning opportunities it presents. Stay curious, be open to change, and actively seek ways to refine your skills—it’s a journey of continuous improvement.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents did for me was fostering my involvement in basketball. Beyond the physical and mental benefits of the sport, it played a significant role in shaping my leadership and business skills.
Basketball, as a team sport, taught me the value of collaboration and effective communication. On the court, success depended on understanding each team member’s strengths, adapting strategies on the fly, and working together seamlessly. These experiences translated seamlessly into the business world, where teamwork and communication are equally essential for success.
Moreover, basketball cultivated my leadership skills. As a team captain, I learned to motivate and inspire my teammates, make quick decisions under pressure, and take responsibility for both victories and defeats. These leadership qualities have proven invaluable in my professional journey, providing a foundation for effective team management and decision-making in the business realm.
In essence, my parents’ support in embracing basketball as a passion not only contributed to my physical well-being but also became a powerful catalyst for developing essential life skills. It underscored the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and leadership—qualities that have significantly influenced my approach to both personal and professional challenges.
