Meet Chueh-Hui (Andrea) Huang

We were lucky to catch up with Chueh-Hui (Andrea) Huang recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chueh-Hui (Andrea), so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
My inquisitive nature drives me to continually seek out new knowledge and never become complacent with my current circumstances. Additionally, I maintain a strong connection with my intuition and inner emotions. I ensure to set aside dedicated time for introspection, allowing me to listen to my heart. Through this practice, I remain open, adaptable, and, consequently, creative.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a film editor based in Los Angeles, and I consider my editing skills to be a versatile storytelling tool that enables me to collaborate on projects spanning a wide range of styles and genres. I’ve had the privilege of working on various types of projects, including narrative films, documentaries, music videos, and animation. Each project presents a unique and exhilarating creative journey. For instance, I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with the renowned animator Maureen Selwood, celebrated for her exceptional hand-drawn animation work. Working alongside Maureen has allowed me to delve into the realm of visual experimentation, where I can freely combine multiple layers of animated elements and backgrounds. Our collaborative process involves a dynamic exchange of ideas, which enhances the fluidity of character movement and helps to bring missing scenes to life within the story. As I look ahead, I’m excited about the prospect of exploring more captivating stories and engaging projects in the future.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Storytelling is one of the paramount skills in the filmmaking field. It’s a skill that unites every member of the crew in the pursuit of crafting a compelling narrative. Mastering the art of storytelling is the compass that can guide any filmmaker on a fulfilling and enduring journey in the world of cinema.

Furthermore, the ability to be a cooperative team player is equally indispensable. Cultivating an amiable and collaborative demeanor, and consistently giving your best, opens the door to a wider array of opportunities. Since filmmaking is a collaborative endeavor, effective and precise communication of ideas is yet another invaluable attribute to possess.

While my career didn’t initially begin as a film editor, I embarked on a comprehensive journey through various roles in filmmaking before focusing on editing. This experience has proven to be exceptionally valuable. It has molded me into a well-rounded filmmaker who understands the inner workings of each department, from pre-production to post-production. Not only do I possess the skills to communicate effectively with other departments, but I also grasp how each department contributes to the overall storytelling process. In the editing phase, I can leverage this understanding to enhance their efforts and further enrich the narrative.

Are you looking for folks to partner or collaborate with? If so, describe the sorts of folks you are looking to collaborate with and how they can connect with you if they are reading this and want to collaborate.
Yes, I’m continually on the lookout for intriguing individuals and projects to join forces with in collaborative endeavors. My aspiration is to connect with partners who possess a deep curiosity and unwavering passion for both the world and the projects they are engaged in. I am dedicated to contributing my unique perspective and insights to elevate films to their highest potential, and I am drawn to those who value this collaborative brainstorming process as much as I do. My goal is to create an enjoyable and enriching collaborative experience, where we all learn and grow through our collective storytelling journey.
