Meet Dylan Chambers

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dylan Chambers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dylan below.

Dylan, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by immersing myself in art everyday. There’s certainly no shortage of it in the world and I never take that for granted. As a songwriter and musician, I’m of course listening to a lot of music. Most of the time it’s from past decades. I want to know what people who were alive before me were thinking, saying and feeling. It usually inspires me to write differently. This goes with what films I watch. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot films from the 40s and 50s. People looked and talked differently back then. It’s fascinating to me. I also listen to a lot of podcasts, audiobooks, interviews and stand-up comedy. I’m inspired by the way people talk and the rhythm in what they’re saying. It all strikes me as music in a roundabout way. All of this constantly fuels my creativity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Dylan Chambers and I am a singer, songwriter and guitarist rooted in pop, R&B and soul. One of my main goals as an artist is to preserve the sanctity of the classic music of the 60s and 70s that I grew up listening to while making it modern and relevant to my generation. Since 2020, I’ve released 14 digital singles and have collaborated with artists such as Cory Wong and G. Love. I recently released my album “It’s Time For Dylan Chambers” through acclaimed Japanese record label, P-Vine. It’s currently available on CD/vinyl all throughout Japan but you can purchase it online for nationwide shipping as well. It’s the first time my music has ever been sold in record stores and I’m very proud to have this album out there.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Number one – I started performing onstage at the age of four which really helped me to feel comfortable in front of an audience. Number two – I’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of people in my life introduce me to different forms of music that I’ve never stopped enjoying and being influenced by. Number three – It’s been impressed upon me that punctuality and keeping your word are two qualities that build trust, so I really make an effort to live by those.

If you want to get into performing, start by finding open mics, talent shows, a local theater, etc. If you want to widen your musical pallet, ask people much older than you what artists they were listening to growing up and then sit down and listen yourself. If you want to build trust, keep track of the promises you’ve made and really try to keep them. Write them down if you have to.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I acknowledge it. That’s step one. Then, I’ll stop and do something that makes me feel present. Sometimes that’s taking a few deep breaths. Other times, it’s taking a walk outside and becoming very aware of my surroundings. I’ll stop and look at a flower or follow a cloud passing by. I also remind myself that whatever is causing me to feel overwhelmed has a solution.
